Saint Mary of the Isle Roman Catholic Church

This past year, St. Mary of the Isle welcomed a number of new members to our church family. We
were delighted to see five adults receive the sacraments of initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist –
at the Easter Vigil, and to offer Confirmation and First Eucharist to others who had previously been baptized in
another Christian faith.

We can wonder and ponder, “What made these folks call the rectory and continue to come to our
inquiry and formation sessions?” (They may have had children enrolled in the religious education program
here, or perhaps they had attended Mass for years with their Catholic spouse, or maybe a friend had shared
happy talk about being a parishioner of St. Mary’s.)

The Spirit of God was indeed working in these people, moving them to first inquire about the Catholic
faith, and then to commit to a period of conversion and formation. God had touched them in some wonderful

The RCIA process is on-going here at St. Mary’s. It is a process of conversion and is an ongoing
journey with our Lord. It is the way adults come into the church and receive their sacraments. Perhaps you
know someone who has tentatively shown some interest in our faith, perhaps even a family member. Should
the occasion arise, please encourage such people to call the rectory (432-0157). We welcome inquiries at any
time. This is really being an apostle for Christ.

Inquiry Sessions, a time of “taking a closer look” at the RCIA process will begin sometime in Septem-
ber. Further details will be announced here in the bulletin.

                                                BIBLE STUDY

Starting this Fall, Fr. Paschal will be offering a weekly Bible Study. This Bible Study would offer the opportu-
nity to:
*       study the scriptures
* rediscover the foundations of our Catholic faith
* find reasons for what we believe
* give us a guide to understanding the scriptures
* enable us cultivate and sustain interest in daily study of the Bible at home and elsewhere
* attempt to listen to God speaking to us about our problems, disappointments and confusions
* discern the voice of God amidst other voices around us

For those who are interested, the start date and schedule will be announced shortly.

God’s Blessings Always, Fr. Chris N.
