Round 2 Community Funding Recipients: multicultural
Aiga Samoa Association North Brisbane Inc, Everton Park was allocated
$7700 towards recreation of popular culture activities for the Polynesian
people, especially Samoans and the communities of Caboolture and
Redcliffe.
Buddha’s Light International Association Queensland Inc, Priestdale,
was allocated $10,000 for the Q150 Buddha campaign, a three-day project
organisers expect to attract thousands of visitors to the South Bank
Parklands. The purpose of the campaign is to show that after 150 years,
Queensland is a vibrant state with a culturally rich and diverse society that
can live harmoniously together.
Centre for Public Culture and Ideas, Griffith University, Nathan, was
allocated $6970 towards a web-dictionary of German missionary endeavour
in Queensland.
Gold Coast Multicultural Festival Association Inc was allocated $6845 for
the inaugural Gold Coast Multicultural Festival 2008, which aims to provide an
avenue to celebrate and showcase the skills and talents of the city's diverse
cultural community.
Italian Australian Welfare Association (Granite Belt) Inc, Stanthorpe was
allocated $10,000 for recording oral histories of Italians living on the Granite
Belt - to preserve their own cultural heritage, and to publish these histories in
electronic and book form.
Italian Catholic Federation: Aspley-Geebung Inc, Aspley, was allocated
$10,000 towards translating the book Gli Italiani Di Brisbane (The Italians of
Brisbane) from Italian to English. The book will increase awareness among
second, third and forth generation Italians as well as the general public who
cannot speak Italian, of the social, cultural, environmental and economic
contribution that Italian migrants made to the city of Brisbane and the State of
Queensland.
Migrant Resource Centre Townsville/Thuringowa Ltd, was allocated
$10,000 for the Q150 Lantern Project, which will produce a sense of
community, belonging and pride within young people.
Multilink Community Services Inc, Woodridge, was allocated $9000
towards production of Logan, a Cultural Melting Pot DVD which examines the
history of cultural diversity in Logan.
Nerang State School Parents and Citizens Association, was allocated
$6200 for a celebration of cultural events focusing on students exploring the
differences and similarities between other cultures and their own.
Queensland Chinese Forum, Fortitude Valley, was allocated $9960
towards a virtual reflection of Chinese settlement in Queensland, through the
exhibition of Chinese artefacts from collections in Cairns and districts at a
Brisbane city venue. Project includes oral histories and digital images.
Rathdowney Area Development and Historical Association Inc, has been
allocated $7775 to build a model of the tramway system as it existed (1911-
1944), and to develop a permanent display on Pioneering Women of the
region including Indigenous, European and Australian women from 1850 up
to 1930.
University of Queensland Boilerhouse Community Engagement Centre,
Ipswich, was allocated $10,000 in order to strengthen shared local
understandings of Ipswich through a historical record that celebrates the
development of Ipswich's identity.
Vietnamese Community in Australia Queensland Chapter, Darra, was
allocated $10,000 toward the Looking Back, Looking Forward project which
aims to create an inclusive exhibition which captures the experiences and the
settlement of the Vietnamese community in Queensland.
