TBP-010 Series: Blockages To Answered Prayer
Lesson: Marital Strife
Mk 11:24-25. “And when you stand praying, forgive…” There are some potential hindrances to prayer.
1P3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the
weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
knowledge - gnosis (gno'-sis); especially of things lawful and unlawful for Christians
honor - tim`e (tee-may'); value, esteem, cherish, the honor which one has by reason of (God given) rank.
heirs together - sugkleronomos (soong-klay-ron-om'-os); a joint participant.
grace:- charis (khar'-ece); benefit, gift, pleasure, joy, delight, sweetness, loveliness, favor; a reward
of life - zoe- every living soul, used of the absolute fullness of life
hinder - egkopto (eng-kop'-to); to impede, detain, to impede one's course, to set back
Considering all of the above, we could paraphrase the verse like this:
1P3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, reside together with your wife keeping in mind what is lawful and unlawful for you
in terms of your relationship: for example, treat your wife with honor - that is a someone of value esteemed very
highly by you. Afford all dignity to her; treating her as a precious, priceless and cherished urn which could be
broken if not treated with gentleness and care, who by reason of her God given status is worthy of great esteem.
Make sure you treat her as a joint participant with you of all the benefits, gifts, pleasures, joys, delights, favors, and
rewards which is her due and her share of the loveliness of life. Do this and your prayers will not be hindered and
your life will be able to proceed without impediment or setback.
That reminds me of the „Macabees 3‟ story so here goes. I heard on a tape one time that the man in the family should
handle all the family finances. This was "God's prescribed order and to break it was wrong!" “OK, thanks Lord; I
hear you; We‟ll soon fix that! We‟ll see who‟s in charge.” Marianne was now writing the checks and paying the
bills, but those times were about over. Things were about to change!
I informed Marianne that I would be taking over the household finances. She asked why. Had she done something
wrong? "Nothing wrong exactly, I informed her, it's just that God wants me as the head of the family to do it." She
began to cry. "Gee Honey, what's wrong? I'm just trying to do things God's way. You understand don't you?" No
answer…. In tears she went into our bedroom and lay down on the bed. I let her go. Well, she'll feel better when she
sees that I'm just obeying God. God‟s on my side on this one….
She came out of the dark bedroom in an hour or so with a sleepy, squinty look on her face. She squinted in the light
of the room at me and said "Is there a Macabees 3 in the Bible? I thought, "Hmmm, I'm the Bible expert; I should
know this" "Wait, I think there is a Macabees something in our old Catholic Bible; "Why do you ask?"
She squinted at me and said, "Something said 'Macabees 3' while I was lying on the bed”. I opened the bible. Well
what do you know? There is a Macabees 3. I opened to this book and began to read….. "Gulp!".
"Well, what‟s it say?", Marianne asked. I said, "Well, it‟s the story of a King who had a person who looked after his
finances and he did a real good job of it; however the King decided to do it himself. Just as he was about to take
over, he was told by God to leave things the way they were. Gee, I wonder what it means?"
Marianne brightened and said something like, “I think I understand; let me try to explain it to you!"
I laughed and said, “Never mind, as head of this family, I've made the decision to leave things as they are."
HOMEWORK TBP-010
___. After Jesus told us how to pray in Mk 11:24, He had told us all we need to know to pray
successfully.
What caution did Jesus give us in Mk 11:25 about prayer? ______________________________.
___. According to Mk 11:24 we are to believe we receive, then we pray.
___. No, we are to believe we receive after we pray and before we receive the manifestation.
When we pray, when are we to believe we receive?____________________________________.
___. And then at the moment we pray, we will receive the manifestation of what we prayed for.
___. When we don‟t forgive others, God doesn‟t forgive us our trespasses.
___. This is a dangerous place to be because it opens the door to the devil in our lives. 1Jn 5:18.
What does Eph 4:27 say? ________________________________________________________.
___. Not forgiving another person is only OK if they fail to forgive us first because God says we
will reap what we sow.
___. When we read a verse like 1P3:7, the husband‟s part is to do what it says and the wife‟s part
is to remind him in case he forgets to do it.

Using your concordance, give 2 other places in the Bible where the verse is directed specifically
