Benefit concert for library
Chris Brubeck returns to the Brubeck Room on Friday, Aug. 7, from 7 10 p.m. with his band,
Triple Play, for a benefit concert for the library. The LA Times said, "Triple Play was rollicking
good fun. Led by bassist, trombonist and pianist Chris Brubeck, the trio stole the show with its
flair and virtuosity." Along with Chris, the band is comprised of Peter M adcat Ruth, a Grammy
award-winning harmonica virtuoso who has been called "the best blues harmonica player in the
world" and Joel Brown, Senior Artist-in-Residence for the Department of Music at Skidmore
College, an extraordinarily versatile guitarist and vocalist. The event includes drinks, dinner and
the concert. As the evening progresses, guests will have a chance to join the fun and merriment
by participating in performances with the band. Tickets for the evening are $75 for general
seating and $100 for preferred seating. Tickets may be purchased online at

A princess of a day
Little kids dreams may be realized on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 11 2, when princesses from all
the best fairy tales come to life with Visit with the Princesses. Cinderella, Arielle, Snow White
and Jasmine are just a few of the characters who will be on hand to greet children for autograph
signing and photo ops. Parents/caregivers are encouraged to bring their cameras and children
may dress-up for the occasion. The program is made possible by the Coyle Family Young

New activities for kids
Even though the summer reading program, Dive into Reading, winds down, more fun activities
are planned for August for kids up to age 12. The last sessions of drop-in crafts, Lullabies for
Littles, and drop-in story times take place on M onday and Tuesday. Bio Sphere continues on
Tuesdays, Aug. 11, 18 and 25 from 3:30 4:30 p.m. for kids in grades 4 6. Kids read about
famous people and then get together for activities, talks and refreshments. On Thursdays in
August, from 3:30 4:30 p.m. kids in grades 4 6 can come together for Read Write. This
program introduces children to the writing experience and gives them a chance to create their
own works and share them with new friends. Both of these programs are sponsored by the Steve
and Alison Sherman Family Fund. There is no fee; registration is required. Also on Thursdays,
children in grades 1 3 can enjoy French story times with Le Groupe des Petits, from 11 11:45
a.m. French Club students from Wilton High School will share their love of all things French,

Revolutionary times
M embers of the WINRs Circle (Wilton Intermediate Nutmeg Readers) take a tour of the Keeler
Tavern M useum on Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 11 noon as an activity based on the August
book, The Attack of the Turtle by Drew Carlson. Children and adults who are interested in
American Revolutionary history are invited to meet at Keeler Tavern located at 132 M ain Street
in Ridgefield before 11 a.m. The tour is free for WINRs Circle members, $3 for non-member
children and $5 for accompanying adults. Weather permitting, participants may picnic in Keeler
Tavern s sunken gardens after the program. Advance registration and fee are required by Friday,
Aug. 7 in the Children s Library. The WINRs Circle meets the first Saturday of each month at 3
to discuss a Nutmeg Award-nominated book. The program is funded by HSBC Bank. For

Wednesday Won ders finishes big
The last of the Wednesday Wonders programs is Aug. 12 with Songs of the Sea, from 2 3 p.m.
Children of all ages can enjoy toe-tapping, sing-along fun with Geoff Kaufman, a chantey man
from Mystic Seaport. He will be singing songs from early balladry to the modern day, reflecting
the connection of humans and the seas. Children under 8 must have chaperones in the program;
children between 8 and 12 years must have chaperones remain in the building. Registration is

Teen time
This week teens have cartoons, cars and crafts in their repertoire of things to do. With Anime
Drawing for Teens on Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 4 6 p.m., teens in grades 7 12 and recent high
school grads will create their own anime characters using paints and inks. At the end of the
session, they will be able to bring home their matted designs. Bruce and Joanne Hunter, artists
from the Art Spot, will be teaching the kids the art of anime. What s Under Your Hood on
Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 5 6 p.m. will help kids learn about cars, reviewing basic
maintenance tips and techniques. The program is for teens with licenses or driving permits. They
will identify parts of the engine, learn how to check fluid levels and tire pressure, change a tire
and jump start a car. The rain date is Aug. 13 since the program will be held outside in the
library s parking lot. Drop-in Teen Crafts on Thursday, Aug. 13, from noon 5 p.m. have kids
making doodle art for their lockers. All materials are supplied by the library. There are no fees
for any of the programs which are made possible by the John and Patricia Curran Teen Fund. For

Ecologist and author Amy Seidl discusses her book, Early Spring: An Ecologists and Her
