August 6th

Meet the Teacher 1:00 – 3:00 PM  Welcome back to Welch Elementary! We are excited that a new year is beginning and

August 10th glad to see all of our past students and all of our new students, too.  We have great

Brewster’s Ice Cream Spirit Night news – Welch made AYP this year! (AYP is Adequate Yearly Progress) Great job

7:00 – 9:00 PM students, parents, and staff. We worked hard and achieved the standards set by the “No

Child Left Behind Act” in all of the content areas.

August 11th

Fire Drill  Please be sure to read over the Coweta County Attendance Policy that is attached.

Parents and students age 10 will be required to sign the policy and return it to school.

Coweta County School Board Meeting Children under the age of 10 are not required to sign the policy; however, parents are

PTA Meeting 6:00 PM required to sign the policy and return it to school.

 Fall pictures this year will be August 21st. Please make your plans accordingly. We have

August 12th a make up day scheduled for September 25th.

Bus Head count AM/PM  We have 2 parent openings for School Council this year due to recent family relocations.

August 14th Please fill out the ballot at the bottom and return to your child’s teacher if you are

Principal’s Breakfast Club interested in running for either of these 2 positions.

7:00 – 8:00 AM – Media Center  This year, Welch will be going through the GAPSS (Georgia Assessment of Performance

Pre-K Parents on School Standards) accreditation process. All schools must meet this requirement of

August 17th the “No Child Left Behind Act of 2001”. We are excited about the opportunity to evaluate

Boy Scout Recruiting our programs through data-driven, research-based practices. More details will follow

1st – 5th Grade 8:30 AM shortly.

 Our Open House nights this year will be staggered so that we can accommodate all of

August 18th our parents and students.  We look forward to seeing you all there.

Code Yellow Drill

1st & 2nd Grade Open House - August 25th at 6:00 PM.

Boy Scout Meeting 3rd & 4th Grade Open House - August 26th at 6:00 PM

6:30 – 8:00 PM – Cafeteria 5th Grade Open House - August 27th at 6:00 PM.

August 20th  This year birthday cakes and cupcakes are allowed during your student’s lunch time.

Partner’s Pizza Spirit Night They will be served in the Cafeteria.

 This year we are participating in an Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough fundraiser to help

August 21st

Principal’s Breakfast Club fund the salary for our wonderful Art teacher, Mrs. Doolittle. We will begin the fundraiser

7:00 – 8:00 AM – Media Center on August 31st and are excited about this opportunity because of the quality that Otis

Kindergarten Parents Spunkmeyer is known for.  YUM! Thank you in advance for your help and

participation in this worthwhile fundraising effort for our Fine Arts program at Welch.

1st & 2nd Grades only Why were School Councils established? Georgia’s A+ Education Reform Act of 2000 requires that School

August 26th Councils be established at every public school by October 1, 2003. School Councils are policy level advisory

Welch Open House 6:00 PM bodies to the Principal, Superintendent, and local Board of Education. They may advise and make

3rd & 4th Grades only recommendations on any matter related to school improvement and student achievement. The purpose of

School Councils is to “bring communities and schools closer together in a spirit of cooperation to solve

difficult education problems, improve academic achievement, provide support for teachers and administrators,

August 28th All members of the School Council must: Maintain a school-wide perspective on issues, regularly
