TUTORIAL : HOW TO CREATE A BLOG
DSDN142 CREATIVE CODING

GETTING STARTED
This tutorial will cover creating a blog using Blogger, so open http://www.blogger.com in your browser
to begin.

Blogger is a Google service, so you will need a Google account. If you already have a Google account
(for example if you use Gmail), then just login to it on the right side panel, and skip ahead to Create
Your Blogger Account.

If you don’t have a Google account, follow the instructions below to set one up.

CREATE YOUR GOOGLE ACCOUNT
Click the Get Started button.

Fill out the form.

The email address is used as your username. The password will be for your new Google account, it
does not need to be the same password you currently use for that email address.

The display name will appear on the posts you make on your blog, so usually it should just be your
real name, like “Luke Smith”.
Check the box to agree to the terms of service and click continue.

CREATE A BLOG
This is the main page for your Blogger account.

One Blogger account can manage several different blogs, so you can have a separate blog for each
course.

If this is a new Blogger account, there will be no blogs in it at present.

1. Click Create a Blog.

2. Name your blog and choose its URL (web address).
You should name the blog DSDN142: Your Name and make the address something similar, for
example dsdn142yourname.blogspot.com.

Click Continue.

3. Choose a template for how your blog will look.

By default, the Simple template will be selected, which is a good choice.

Click Continue.

4. Success!

Now you can post on your blog, or customise its appearance. For the purposes of this tutorial, click
Start Posting.

This will take you to the admin view for your blog, where there are many options.

POSTING ON YOUR BLOG

Enter a title for your post, and the content of your post.

These three buttons are useful for adding links, pictures and videos:

When you have finished adding content to your post, click the Preview button to see what your post
will look like, if you are not sure whether you want to post it straight away.

or click the Publish Post button to add your post to your blog.
DESIGNING YOUR BLOG
1. If you want to further customise the appearance of your blog, click on the Design tab.

2. Click on in the sub-menu.

3. There are a lot of options in here! This is where you alter things like overall blog layout and colour
schemes.

4. When you are happy with your changes, click Apply to Blog to save your changes.

5. Click Back to Blogger to exit the template designer.

TIPS FOR A GREAT CREATIVE CODING BLOG
Here are some things to keep in mind about posting on your DSDN142 blog.

    1. Post early and often. It’s a lot harder to go back later and try to remember what process you
went through to get to your final designs.
    2. Post your inspirations and precedents. We want to see evidence of your own research, and
learn about the sort of designs that drive you.
    3. Post your experiments, successes and failures. When you have a breakthrough, when you
tried modifying some code that mangled your design horribly, when you made something
weird and interesting but decided against continuing with it for design reasons, we want to
       see all of this.
    4. Show critical thinking and analysis. Write about why you like your precedent images, what
your reasons were for changing your design, or what could be improved in your work-in-
       progress.
    5. Be succinct and to the point. You don’t need to write essays for every post.
