How to Deal With Stress
Have you heard the saying "Stress kills"?
There is alot of truth to those words. Too much stress can be very
detrimental to your health and well being.
Stress can cause episodic hypertension which can be very dangerous. Then
there are heart attacks along with other health concerns that can be
caused by high stress levels. We are going to look into how to deal with
stress so these problems can be preventd.
Stress is a part of life in the 21st century. We all find ourselves
"stressing out" at some time or another. There are some days that are
much more stressful then others. The question now is - how to deal with
stress?
What can we do to minimize the negative effects that stress can have on
us?
Everyday life presents us with a barrage of stressful situtations. All
stress isn't bad. In fact stress can be healthy in some situtations. The
problems arise when we have too much stress in our lives. We need to look
at the source of the stressors to determine if it is a good healthy
response or an unhealthy negative type of response to stress that will be
detrimental to our health and well being. Once we have determined the
cause and type of stress we are dealing with, we can then move forward
towards deciding what is the best way to deal with stress.
There are several physical signs of stress such as rapid heart beat,
increased sweating, tightness in the chest and muscle tension.
There are also behavioral signs of stress such as pacing or fidgeting.
Foot tapping or drumming of your fingers.
Emotional symptoms may be irritability, depression, feelings of
loneliness, moodiness and anxiety.
All this still leaves us with the question of how to deal with stress.
Here are some proven methods.
1. First try to recognise the cause of the stress,
2. If possible remove yourself from the situation even if only for five
or ten minutes.
3. Get an adequate night's sleep
4. Eat a healthy nutritious diet.
5. Exercise to release tension and increase energy levels..
6. Take a break and a couple of slow deep breaths. Then just relax for
a few minutes It can be a mini five minute vacation from a stressful task
or situation..
7. Listen to soothing music or a favorite CD of calming sounds of
nature.
8. Engage in some relaxing activity such as Yoga Or simply do a few
stretching exersizes
9. Go get a soothing back or foot massage to relax you and release
built up tension.
10. Take time for meditation and/or prayer. This will sooth your mind and
spirit.
These methods of stress relief can be very effective and will be
beneficial to your over all sense of well being. Just learn to recognize
the signs of stress and then implement the techniques that are most
successful for you.
How to deal with stress is up to each individual. What methods are
relaxing and relieve excessive stress and tension for one person may not
be the same techniques that do it for another. Whatever method you find
works for you, will be the best way to deal with your stress.
