Dr Abdul Kalam's visit (2003)
Mangalore, March 28: The President of India, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam had a
special word of appreciation for the education imparted in Jesuit
institutions in particular and commended the moral leadership, character-
building and inculcation of values that is evolved in Christian institutions.
He said he was extremely grateful to the Jesuit tradition that was instilled
in him and he was happy to have been educated in their institution.
To mark the inauguration of the Information Technology Research and
Management Centre, Dr Adbul Kalam unveiled the plaque and Defence
minister George Fernandes unveiled the plaque of the Xavier Block for
Science and Research. Governor of Karnataka T N Chaturvedi, minister-in-
waiting per protocol G Parameshwara (representing Chief Minister S M
Krishna who could not be present), state transport minister and district
minister in charge Ramanath Rai, city mayor Shashidhar Hegde, Bishop
Aloysius P D'souza, MLA Yogish Bhat, Karnataka Jesuit Provincial Fr
Ronnie Prabhu SJ, Rector Fr Vijay Kumar Prabhu SJ, Principal Fr Prashant
