Diesel 4 Wheel Drive Cars

Diesel four wheel drive cars are not unheard of in the automobile market. These cars, which are also known

as , were originally used by the military. Their history however is even older. Bramah Joseph Diplock, a

British engineer patented a 4 wheel traction engine well before military vehicles started using the four by

four technology. The early known military vehicles that used the technology include GAZ-64, Willys

MA/MB and Jeep CJ-2A by Willys-Overland, Power Wagon by Dodge and Typ 128 Schwimmwagen by

Volkswagen. Today the four wheel drive engines predominantly have diesel engines and are used in several

military and non military vehicles such as earth moving machines, sedans, sports cars and SUV's. Some

applications are actually quite unconventional by engineering practices and corollaries, but there are some

really majestic diesel that are being sold in the car market. So here we go...

About Diesel 4 Wheel Drive Cars

There are some significant differences in the gasoline engines and diesel engines. The mechanism of the

pistons of these cars is the point of difference. In the piston of a diesel engine, the piston compresses a

significant amount of air into the piston block, which causes the said volume of air to substantially heat up.

Then a small amount of diesel is forcibly sprayed into the engine block. This entry of an inflammable fuel

causes the entire mixture of extremely heated air and diesel to get combusted. This cycle keeps the engine

running , thereby providing propulsion to your vehicle.

Diesel four wheel drive cars have propulsion on all the 4 wheels. From the point of view of practical

application, these cars are principally used for off road terrain purposes. However as mentioned above,

several of them have come to be used in SUV's and other vehicles. The diesel cars with all wheel drive have

a greater torque than gasoline engine, which is achieved over a longer time period. This makes the car better

weight bearing, and apt for longer distance travels. Thus, smaller pick up trucks and 'jeeps' which are used to

transport weights, usually, have a four wheel drive diesel run engine. Thus, this technology is also used in

several SUV's and large sized sedans. Another advantage that can be counted is that diesel 4 wheel drive

cars can use bio-diesel, a new renewable fuel source.

It must be noted that in the aforementioned tables there several models where you will have to specifically

opt for diesel 4 wheel drive technology, as several cars are available in a 2 wheel drive variant as well as a

gasoline engine. Also, note that the mileage or fuel economy that is provided is as declared by the

Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and should be used as a conclusive fact. The prices of the diesel 4

wheel drive cars are also subject to change as per time, location and other such influencing factors. I hope

that the elaboration on diesel 4 wheel drive cars is resourceful. Good luck.
