RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED Dear Friends of NDPC,
Last week, many of you received a letter (or email) from the church announcing the news
of the retirement of Paul Osborne, our interim Director of Christian Education. Paul's
decision to retire has come after a faithful process of discernment. It was hard news for
Beth and me to receive, because in losing Paul, our church staff loses one of the best
Christian educators in the country.
There is some good news in this announcement. The first part of the good news is that
Paul will be able to focus on the healing of his body. The second part of the good news
is that Paul and Martha Osborne (who is another one of the best Christian educators in
the country!) joined 9 others and became members of NDPC this past Sunday. Our staff
loses Paul, but our church rejoices in having Paul and Martha, and this whole amazing
class of new members as part of our family of faith. Please plan to get to know all of our
new members in person.
The education of children in the Way of Jesus Christ has been NDPC's strength since its
beginning. Margaret Godfrey told me that it was the church's impressive way with
children that brought she and Reuben and their family here "just a few" years ago. Our
expectation is that this congregation will continue to put the well-being of children at the
David Lewicki, Co-Pastor
top of our list of mission priorities. Beth and I are extremely grateful that Carol Morgan
Beth Waltemath, Co-Pastor
Albert C. Winn, Pastor Emeritus
has agreed to chair the search committee for a successor to Paul. She will be joined by
Paul E. Osborne, Interim Director of Christian Education elders Linda Davis, John Sandifer, and Hannah Brown, and by Jessie Bond and Chuck
Clinton T. Miller, Director of Music Ministry Cass. This group is committed to an open-minded search, trying to find the best person
Maria Badre, Office Manager (or combination of people) who can serve and lead our children and youth. Please keep
the committee in your prayers.
And by all means, plan to join us on the last Sunday in July, when we celebrate the
incredible ministry of Paul Osborne to the children of the church of Jesus Christ!
Grace and peace,
David

Important Update from the Long Range Planning (LRP) Committee
May 15, 2011
The fifteen members of the LRP Committee have been compiling information about our church and
community. This information will help us understand who we are in order to discern God's call for our
future. We have been gathering the following information:
Programming (NDPC’s programs and outside groups that use our facilities)
Finances (revenues, expenses, and trends since 1998)
Receptions
Property (NDPC’s physical property and assets)
Demographics (local demographics of the community that surrounds us) Please join us for summer fellowship after worship

May 29: Rebecca & Jonathan Watts Hull
We have designed an inventory that is intended to help each of us contribute to the mission of
NDPC. This is different than the annual Time and Talent checklist. That checklist focuses on the
existing work of the church and asks how you will participate. This questionnaire asks what you know June 5: Betty Busbee & Glenda Clay
and care about—your professional experiences, hobbies and life experiences. This information has
never been requested by the church. We ask for it for two reasons: 1) to strengthen our connections June 12: World Literacy Initiative potluck (no reception)
with each other (e.g. when someone in our community needs help navigating the Social Security maze,
or with home repair issues, they can be connected by the ministers or elders to someone in the church June 19: John & Alice Cornett
with knowledge in that area); 2) this inventory will help us set a realistic vision of who we want to
become by giving us a clear picture of our church’s most valuable asset: the human resources that June 26: Marie Schoeneberg & Annie Godfrey
exist within our church family.
If you receive the Communicator by email, you will receive your inventory form on Sunday, May 22 to July 3: Steve & Anne Hendry
complete online. If you prefer not to use the internet, we will have paper copies for you in the narthex on
the 22nd and 29th. We are asking that all forms be completed and submitted promptly: by Monday, July 10: Angela & Chuck Cass
