                               ASSENT TO AN ACT OF THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY
IT IS HEREBY NOTIFIED that, on 22 January 2008, acting pursuant to section 21 of the Norfolk Island Act 1979, I
declared my assent to the following proposed laws passed by the Legislative Assembly:

        Act                                                            Commencement

        Liquor (Amendment) Act 2008                                    The Act is deemed to have commenced on 16
        (Act No. 5 of 2008)                                            January 2008.

        Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2007-2008                     The Act will commence on the date of publication
        (Act No. 6 of 2008)                                            of this notice in the Norfolk Island Government
                                                                       Gazette.

        Absentee Landowners Levy (Amendment) Act 2007                  The Act will commence on the date of publication
        (Act No. 7 of 2008)                                            of this notice in the Norfolk Island Government
                                                                       Gazette.

Liquor (Amendment) Bill 2008
A Bill for an act to correct a possible anomaly created by the repeal, in particular, of section 64 of the Liquor Act 1960 by
the enactment of the Liquor Act 2005.

Kingston. The Bills are also available on the internet at www.info.gov.nf.

       NOTICE OF INTENTION TO APPLY FOR THE CONVERSIONS OF INCORPORATION OF A COMPANY
I, Geoff Gardner of Cascade Road Norfolk Island, being a person authorised in that behalf by the board of directors of
the company known as Athletics Norfolk Island, hereby give notice that the company intends to apply for the conversion
of incorporation of the company under the Companies Act 1985 as a Company limited by Guarantee to that of an
association under the Associations Incorporation Act 2005.

This notice has been approved by the Assistant Registrar of Associations.

                                  ELECTION OF STAFF CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE
                                               NOTICE TO VOTERS

Polling day for the Staff Consultative Committee will be WEDNESDAY 30 JANUARY 2008.

Polling booths will be operating at the following locations

        Customs Office, Burnt Pine - 9.30 am till 12.30 pm
        New Military Barracks, Exco Office, Kingston - 1.00 pm till 4.00 pm

Staff may vote at either of the above booths.

Voting is not compulsory.
Voting is by majority ballot.

HOW TO VOTE
     You are able to mark up to 4 nominees on the ballot paper, one for each of the four vacancies.
     More than 4 marks will render the vote invalid. Any clear mark in the box is acceptable.
     You may vote for less than 4 if you wish.
     The 4 nominees with the greatest number of votes will be deemed to have been elected to the 4 vacancies.

CASTING YOUR VOTE
     When you attend at the designated polling place you will be confirmed as being eligible to vote by the Returning
      Officer. The Returning Officer will provide you with a ballot paper. Each paper will be initialled by the Returning
      Officer.
     Each employee may vote only once on the day. There will be no proxy votes.
     No ballot paper may be taken from the polling place. To be an eligible vote, a ballot paper must be placed in
      the secured box.

COUNTING OF VOTES
     The secured ballot box will not be opened until the end of the voting period.
     Vote counting shall take place as soon as practicable after the close of polling.
     Candidates may appoint a scrutineer to be present at any counting of votes.
     As soon as the Returning Officer is satisfied that the election result has been determined, the Returning Officer
      shall 
      (a)     Declare elected those numbers of candidates equal to the number to be elected, who have the highest
              number of votes.
      (b)     Report the declaration to the CEO.

                                       BURSARIES AND SCHOLARSHIPS
Applications are invited for awards of bursaries and scholarships to enable students to continue their education
elsewhere than on Norfolk Island.

Students must have completed at least three years schooling on Norfolk Island and must be residents of Norfolk Island.

Prospective applicants who are awaiting examination results or who have not yet been advised of acceptance for
admission to the course of their choice should nevertheless still lodge applications.

Brief details of awards available are:

BURSARIES

(a)       Higher School Certificate Bursary
          Available to students who have attained the School Certificate and who, in the opinion of the Bursaries and
          Scholarships Committee, are capable of proceeding to and passing the Higher School Certificate examination
          or its equivalent, who have special educational requirements for schooling elsewhere than on Norfolk Island
          and who can demonstrate proven abilities in that specialised area.

SPECIAL NOTE
As the Higher School Certificate is available at the Norfolk Island Central School, this bursary is limited to applicants with
special curriculum needs.

SCHOLARSHIPS

(a)       Tertiary Education Scholarship
          This scholarship is available to assist full time students undertaking a course leading to a tertiary qualification
          from a university or other tertiary institution.

(b)       Vocational Trainee Scholarship
          This scholarship is available to assist persons wishing to undertake apprenticeships, technical or para-
          professional studies and/or training away from Norfolk Island.

Tertiary Education Scholarships and Vocational Training Scholarships are available for a maximum period of 4 years
from the start of a course. Courses must commence no later than 1 year after completing the Higher School Certificate.

All applications must be accompanied by:

         A minimum 250-word statement describing the student’s career goals and ambitions. This statement must be
          in the student’s own words and should be as detailed as possible;
         Proof of enrolment (from university, TAFE or other tertiary institution);
         Documents which demonstrate satisfactory progress in the previous year (results).

Particular attention is drawn to the fact that FRESH APPLICATIONS ARE REQUIRED IN RESPECT OF STUDENTS
WHO HAVE BEEN IN RECEIPT OF A BURSARY OR SCHOLARSHIP DURING 2007.

ALL APPLICATIONS SHOULD BE LODGED BY CLOSE OF BUSINESS ON 22 FEBRUARY 2008.

association known as Norfolk Island Takemusu Aikido, hereby give notice that I intend to apply for the incorporation of
the association under the Associations Incorporation Act 2005.

                                     THE GOVERNMENT OF NORFOLK ISLAND
                                            EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
                        VOLUNTARY MEMBERSHIP STATUTORY BOARDS/COMMITTEES
The Norfolk Island Government is seeking Expressions of Interest from persons within the community who would wish to
be considered for appointment as a voluntary member of Statutory Boards/Committees. Expressions of Interest are
sought annually. A Register of Persons will be maintained and will be consulted prior to appointments being made.

It is envisaged that appointments will be made to Statutory Boards/Committees based on knowledge, experience and
skills. Vacancies occur from time to time. They do not necessarily exist at present.

The Statutory Boards/Committees are 

                   Employment Conciliation Board
                   Immigration Committee
                   Legal Aid Advisory Committee
                   Liquor Licensing Board
                   Museum Trust
                   Norfolk Island Broadcasting Authority
                   Norfolk Island Cultural Heritage Committee
                   Norfolk Island Gaming Authority
                   Norfolk Island Government Tourist Bureau
                   Norfolk Island Hospital Advisory Board
                   Norfolk Island Planning and Environment Board
                   Public Service Board
                   Social Services Board

Information about the membership, role and functions of the above Boards/Committees may be obtained by contacting

Applications should nominate which Board and/or Committee applicants wish to be appointed to and addressed to Alma
