The following are suggestions for wedding music. These are not the only possibilities. There
are many others. These are meant as a guide.
It is highly recommended to employ a vocalist to lead the people in the Mass parts and to do
solo work if desired.
***These parts apply only in a full Mass. If you are NOT celebrating the Mass, ***these are
omitted.
It is the Parish policy to use only proper liturgical music in Church. Please save pop songs
and Broadway hits for the reception. Participation by the assembly is encouraged.
The Unity Candle is a short space of time. It is not the proper place for songs; however a
short instrumental works well, perhaps using the chimes.

BEFORE THE CEREMONY: It is also possible to have a vocal selection before the ceremony.
Liebestraum -F. Liszt
Ungaresca & Saltarello -Renn. Dances
Trumpet March -J. Clarke
Sinfonia -Purcell
Minuet & Musette -G.F. Handel

Many of the processionals and recessionals are interchangeable.
SEATING OF GRANDPARENTS AND PARENTS:
March from Scipio -G.F. Handel
Adagio -A. Vivaldi

MAIDS:
Canon in D -Johann Pachelbel
Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring -J.S. Bach

BRIDE:

Chorus from Judas Maccabaeus -G.F. Handel

OPENING HYMN
This is optional. Often, if one party is non-Catholic, using a short hymn of praise seems to
work. A hymn common to both groups.
Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow
Now thank we All Our God

RESPONSORIAL PSALM:
Blest Are Those Ps.128 -Marty Haugen (various settings)
The Lord Is Kind and Merciful Ps. 103 Marty Haugen
Center of My Life Ps.16 Paul Inwood
Like Olive Branches Ps.128 L. Deiss
I Will Praise Your Name Ps. 145 David Haas

ALLELUIAS

***MASS PARTS- Holy, Memorial Accl. , Amen, Lamb of God
Mass of Creation
Jesuit’s Mass

***COMMUNION:
It is recommended, as at any Mass, that a Communion hymn be sung and that the assembly
be able to participate. Many times a song with a refrain works well, something that is repeated
seems to be easier for participation. With that in mind any Communion song will work.
One Bread, One Body
Song of the Body of Christ
Eat This Bread
Prayer of St. Francis
Taste and See
Pan de Vida

MARIAN SONG:
Any Marian song is fine, even congregational. It does not have to be the Ave Maria.
Ave Maria -Schubert, Bach-Gounod
On This Day
Hail Mary: Gentle Woman
Sing of Mary

RECESSIONAL:
Allegro Maestoso -G.F. Handel
