educational requirements
By using the YHGfL Website hosting service,
support will be provided, Monday to Friday from
8am to 6pm. This will cover customers throughout
their core hours by a highly experienced support
team who have well skilled network and systems engineers, who are trained to understand the needs of
an educational customer and will pro-actively investigate potential problems, resolve queries and coordinate
service changes.
The service is hosted on Linux servers, running Apache2, MySQL5 and PHP5. This is patched and kept
fully up-to-date in order to prevent any security vulnerabilities. Additional modules for the above applications
may be requested through our support team for the hosted website. By using YHGfL’s service, the burden of
configuring servers to feed your needs as YHGfL will be reduced.
Each website is accessible via a direct URL, rather than an IP address. The service also makes it possible
for websites to be accessible via HTTP, HTTPS/SSL (if a valid Secure Server Certificate is installed), from the
Internet. YHGfL offer self signed certificates as part of its service. Please see the SSL certificate brochure for
more details.
The service supports websites created using HTML or other editing tools such as Dreamweaver, or HotMetal,
as well as Microsoft FrontPage, Perl Interpreter, PHP and CGI scripts. In addition, there is support for database
functionality, using MySQL. In order to make modifications of MySQL easier, YHGfL provide a web front end to
administer it via phpMyAdmin.
For website initiation and maintenance, data upload is available via FTP. A “Site Under Construction” facility is
available for reserved domains where website data is not ready to be launched.
“The YHGfL grid normally exceeds its availability targets and has proved
as reliable as any commercial provider over the past 18 months.”
