                                     Call for papers

The Globalization, Development and Transnationalism initiative at the Faculty of Arts
and Social Sciences at Maastricht University is organizing an international conference on
Globalization, Migration and Development: The role of Football from a Transnational
perspective.

Research on the effects of migration on development has mainly focused on the
economic effects of household remittances. The aim of this exploratory workshop is to
expand the discussion on migration and development by including the context of football.

The conference is devoted to investigate the relation between football, development and
globalization. Possible topics include –but are not limited to- football, international
migration and global value chains, development through football and major football
events, feet drain and circulation, football academies in developing countries, football
migration, remittances and post-career involvement in development


Submission guidelines:

Submissions of abstracts (250-500 words) are expected by April 15, 2011 to the
following address: d.schans@maastrichtuniversity.nl
Decisions will be communicated by April 20th. 2011.
There will be no conference fee but participants will have to pay their own travel and
accommodation expenses.
