As you peruse this evening’s Program Book, please enjoy the original artwork

created by young children in our community. These works were the winning entries

from our first ever Color for a Cause Art Contest, which was held in order to

allow young children from our community to help us raise awareness of our cause.

Through the generosity of Alphagraphics - St. Charles, we are pleased to provide

you with an assortment of notecards showing the talents of additional children from

our community.

Dear Appreciated Guests

It is our pleasure to welcome you to CASA Kane County’s 15th Annual Gala and Auction. Our Celebration

of Children theme is truly in accordance with what we value most – children. With the support of the

individuals and representatives of organizations here with us tonight, we can continue to persevere against

child abuse and neglect, and advocate for life enhancing services and safe homes for these children who

deserve the security we provide for our own children.

Thank you for taking an active role in supporting these youth. Our program could not thrive in its efforts

to support 220 CASA/Guardian ad Litem volunteers who serve over 500 children without your generosity,

now and throughout the year. This evening we look forward to the opportunity to tell you more about the

CASA Kane County program, the volunteers who are behind the scenes and our incredible staff that is the

glue that holds it all together.

We are very proud to introduce and recognize two very special women, Kris Chapski and Jennifer

Pagnessi-Fisher, our A Celebration of Children event co-chairs. Their incredible talents and skills, along

with the auction committee, have once again created a colorful night full of exceptional and enticing

treasures on which to bid. We are all very mindful of the current challenging economy and are very grateful

for the generous donations we are able to offer tonight for bidding.

This night we also honor two couples whose devotion to children, community and volunteerism is most

valued. Phil and Lynn Cali, our Children’s Champion Recipients, and Randy and Julie Meridith, our

Honorary Chairperson’s, have blessed our program and the community through their philanthropic support

to CASA Kane County and many other wonderful nonprofits in the area. Their devotion to make life better

for the children we serve, and to lead by example by doing and not telling, demonstrates true kindness,

empathy and commitment for something greater than themselves.

Your presence here tonight affirms your belief in CASA advocacy. We encourage our guests to peruse the

silent auction tables, revisit the bid sheets often, and join in the fun of competitive bidding during the live

auction.

Let’s celebrate what we can all do together to help these children. The prizes and items taken home

at the end of the evening will be tangible reminders of the hope you leave behind for the infants to

adolescents we represent today and those who will need a CASA tomorrow.

Fondly,

Michael Fratamico Gloria Bunce

Happiness Is Being With Family

The events of childhood do not pass but repeat

themselves like seasons of the year.

– Eleanor Farjeon

Dear Guests,

Welcome! We are very excited to have you here this evening at our Celebration of Children

Gala & Auction. This evening is possible only because of the collaborative effort of a dedi-

cated committee, generous sponsors and donors, and a supportive community. Your generous

support in these times of uncertainty, for which we are extraordinarily grateful, speaks volumes

of your dedication to CASA, your belief in our mission, and your desire to help those less

fortunate. Your participation enables CASA to continue to help the children in our

community who need a voice.

Tonight, we invite you to celebrate the whimsy and wonder of children, and to reflect on

the magic of childhood that every innocent child deserves to experience. The value of

a safe and nurturing environment is priceless; without it, a child is not permitted to thrive.

As you raise your Lollipops high, know that you are helping to help create opportunities

and dreams for all of those vulnerable children, and giving them the chance for a brighter

tomorrow.

It is our hope that you will enjoy a fun-filled evening and leave knowing that, for someone,

you have created the possibility of a childhood filled with fond memories that will resonate

and have a positive impact for generations to come.

With deep appreciation,

Kristin Chapski

Phil & Lynn Cali

Phil worked for Nicor for 25 years, eventually becoming the company’s

Executive Vice President of Operations. One of his former Nicor

colleagues described him as a “no-nonsense kind of leader that could

make changes happen. He was well-respected by everyone he worked

with, and was a person of the highest integrity.”

Phil has served on several boards including the United Way of

Suburban Chicago, which oversaw more than 50 member United

Ways. Phil served as campaign chair, helping the agency raise millions

of dollars for local nonprofit programs. Phil has also served as an

advisory board member for the College of Engineering at the University

of Illinois in Chicago, and on the Board of Aurora University.

Phil and Lynn eventually moved from Aurora to St. Charles, where they

Lynn has been a member of the CASA Kane County Board of Directors

for several years, and has been elected to serve as the Board

Secretary and Vice President during her tenure.

Retirement has only energized Phil and Lynn even more. In addition

to their admirable commitment to philanthropy, Phil and Lynn travel

extensively, most recently spending two weeks in Israel. Their friend,

Ed Werneke, describes Phil as the Energizer Bunny due to his love

of bicycling and his participation in the annual stair climb of the John

Hancock Building. Ed also recalled Phil’s love of fast cars, and the

time in which he gave everyone a scare by skidding off the Autobahn

Race Track at a very high speed.
