Well, just because everybody does it, that doesn't mean it's right. Erika is
correct, proper etiquette is to send a gift to the home prior to or after
the wedding. This saves the happy couple from having to deal with lugging
presents home. For us, we were leaving on our honeymoon immediately
following the reception so we had to make arrangements for my in−laws to
carry out all the gifts and store them at their home for 2 weeks until we
got home from our honeymoon and had time to drive to their house and pick up
the gifts. They were happy to do it, but it was still a burden on them.

And yeah, we set up a "gift table" at our reception too, because we knew
there would be people who showed up with gifts since it had been done before
at weddings in both of our families. The alternative would have been having
guests feel awkward if, upon arrival with gift in hand, they didn't know
where to put it. And we didn't want that to happen.

Oh, and to answer your original question, please wrap the gift. Did I say
please?

Mathilda
