Okay, so what makes Cumberland Frank
so unique? Don’t other commercial firms do
the same?
In answering our queries, Andrew started
by reviewing his past. “As a law student,
I briefly worked in three quite different
smallish law firms in Sydney. I then joined
the public solicitor’s office and transferred

increases significantly.
Misunderstandings
It is not uncommon for partners or
company directors not to understand
the responsibilities to each other, to the
shareholders, to staff, customers and
suppliers. In tough times, a partner preferring
his personal interest by hiding certain
income from his partner is not uncommon.
Not only is it illegal, but it also has significant
consequences for the staff, suppliers and the
business as a whole. Sometimes this arises
because of a genuine misunderstanding
which is nonetheless illegal.
Succession issues
People fail to plan for change, but death,
disabilities, marriage breakdowns, etc.,
often mean some unfortunate person cannot
continue to carry out their executive duties.
But no provision has been set in place to
determine how they can be replaced.
Failure to value their employees
Employees are the lifeblood of all
organisations. They must be valued. Not
honouring the terms of their contracts of
employment, either through ignorance or
deliberate action, will result in unhappy
employees. The cost to business of replacing
competent staff can be as much as $20,000
to $30,000.
So what can the small businessperson do to
counter these potential setbacks?

What is a Business
Incubator?
A small business incubator is a facility
designed to assist new and growing
businesses to become established
and profitable by providing premises,
advice, services and support. Business
incubators are known to reduce the
failure rate of new start-up businesses.
In doing so, they create jobs and assist
local economic development.
Small business incubator tenants are
provided with an initial place of operation
and a supportive environment in which to
grow their business. The incubation period
is normally from one to three years, during
which time the fledgling business becomes
established before graduating into the
wider business community.
The same commercial criteria which
normally apply to all business activities
also apply to the establishment and
management of incubators. In Australia,
the majority of these are operated under an

Gen Y savvy marketers have embraced

Emu Sports Club:
Home of Leonay golf Course By Larry Woldenberg

Park was a host farm for horse riding

So how did that change come about?
According to the owner, Danny, the Canyon

a huge need for motor vehicle enthusiasts.
“We did a survey of the Sydney, Illawarra
