Solidarity statement: no tuition fees, please
The Norwegian Association of Students (StL) advises against tuition fees for students
in Austria, and is also concerned about the new proposal to replace fees with low-
paid social work. Fees are not the solutions to financing or problems the higher
education system in Austria might have.
Tuition fees threaten equal access for students to higher education. Where
inequalities exist, this will only cause them to grow larger. When economic barriers
hinder prospective students from entering higher education, education policy has
failed. We call upon the Austrian government to listen to its students and abolish
tuition fees.
The Norwegian Association of Students encourages the students in Austria to
continue the fight against tuition fees. We’ll be following the development with great
interest.
