God’s Work. Our Hands. 2

Greetings, God’s holy ones, The Lord is with you.

Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immovable, keep busy always in your work for the Lord, for you know that nothing

you do for the Lord is ever useless.

(Paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:58)

This is the bottom line - so to speak - of what we’ve been looking at lately on Wednesday mornings during Breakfast with

Bacon (a.k.a. the Lutheran Men’s bible study). For the past three weeks on Wednesday mornings we’ve been looking at

chapter 15 from Saint Paul’s first letter to the church in Corinth

(1 Corinthians 15:1-58). The chapter can be subdivided into three parts: verses 1-11, the gospel of Christ’s death and

resurrection; verses12-34, the significance for us of the resurrection; and, verses 35-58, the nature of the resurrection.

As you can see by the titles of the three subsections of the chapter, 1 Corinthians 15 talks about the resurrection. Saint

Paul wrote this because some of the people in the church at Corinth were way off the mark in their understanding of the

most fundamental teaching (doctrine) of the Christian Church. “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he

was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).”

After 57 verses talking about the meaning of Jesus’ bodily resurrection, Saint Paul concludes his teaching with instructions

to keep doing the work of the Lord. What I hear Paul saying to me is this: As important as it is to believe in and

understand the resurrection, it is just as important to remember that we’ve got things to do until the time comes. Amen,

come Lord Jesus, come.

And what is it that we are to be doing until Jesus comes? We are all to keep busy in our work for the Lord. Whatever it is

that we are doing for the Lord is important. It will produce results, or in Biblical terms, it will bear fruit.

So, why am I telling you this?

I want to thank you for all the things, the many ways, that you are keeping busy in your work for the Lord. Your labors will

produce a magnificent harvest at the end of the age. More importantly, I think that even now people are being cared for

spiritually and physically as you do the Lord’s work in your lives.

I also need to ask for your help. Both the 8:30 and 10:45 worship services need you to more intentionally direct some of

your work for the Lord towards volunteering as a worship assistant. The Lord’s work includes such tasks as: usher,

greeter, lector/reader, communion assistant, nursery worker and children’s church volunteer. In fact, all of these things

need doing in order for worship to take place.

I appeal to you in the Lord’s name to volunteer to serve in the Lord’s house as a worship assistant. The sign up sheets are

on the bulletin board as you head out the double glass doors to the gym.

God’s Work. Our Hands. 3

Youth News…

VBS was wonderful with a total of 17 participating in class and 2 more serving as helpers! We made cards and

visited shut-ins, collected food for the food pantry, washed the bus, and made blankets for Project Linus.

We’ve been hard at work…

Seven youth (Kendall, Ryan, Ianna, Brandon, Jenna, Hannah and her friend Victoria) helped with Mrs. Cornelle

Smith’s yard. We raked and trimmed shrubbery. Some of the girls even saw a snake!

Zac and Bryson helped with a yard in the community.

Youth of the Month…

Coming in September. If you would like to nominate a particular youth, see Mrs. Deborah.

The Youth Want to Thank…

Ms. Karen, Mrs. Julie Koon, Mrs. Stephanie Woodie, and Mrs. Wanda Porter for helping with VBS,

Mrs. Connie and Mrs. Nancy for the lake party,

The Broam’s for hosting the pool party,

Mr. Glen Clamp for getting the new youth room ready (and teaching us how to paint).

A Few Things for the Congregation…

We’re getting ready for the Youth Gathering. More details to come.

We are available to help! If you know of service activities – yard work, minor repairs, painting, etc. – please see Mrs.
