Funerals set for police chief, fire captain killed in crash

CHELSEA - Funeral services will take place next week for the city's police chief and a fire captain who died when their helicopter crashed
while they were searching for a man who ran from a traffic stop.
Police Chief Scott Sumner, 43, and city fire Capt. Matt Tuttle, 28, were aboard Tuttle's private helicopter when it went down in
Washtenaw County's Scio Township, about five miles west of Ann Arbor, on Thursday afternoon.
Tuttle had volunteered the use of his helicopter after hearing about the search.
A funeral for Tuttle will be held Tuesday at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea. Visitation is today and Monday at the funeral home.
A funeral for Sumner was scheduled for Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea, with burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation is
Tuesday and Wednesday at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home.
BLANCHARD - Terry Blanchard - Father Thomas officiated at the Jan. 22 services held for Terry Blanchard at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mr. Blanchard, 48, died Jan. 17. Born August 23, 1948 in Detroit, Mr. Blanchard
attended school in Detroit's private Catholic schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy following graduation. He
received his honorable discharge in 198. Mr. Blanchard is survived by his wife, Bernadetta; children, Terry Jr.,
Tracey, Che' Shawn, Bernard, Tisha, Sky and Ty; several grandchildren, brothers, George, Menree and Jimmy;
stepfather, M.C. Higgins, and many others. Arrangements were handled by Swanson Funeral Home. Interment
was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. (Michigan Chronicle, Feb. 26-March 4, 1997, Page D-4).

Stephen Kotlark or Kotlarek was born ca 1870 and mar Xavera Siekierski ca 1890’s They had (3) sons John,
Joseph, and Stephen Kotlark. I believed they were living in Hamtramck area I was told Stephen was buried in Mt
Olivet Cemetery in Detroit (1919) and also told he died when children were little making his death ca 1900 or so.
