“Find Your BBG Heartbeat!”

(Lights are off; candles are lit around the perimeter of the room. Girls running the program are spread
out in a circle around the participants. Flashlights are turned on when it is your turn to speak but
besides the candles and the speaker„s flashlight the room is dark. Those running the program are
wearing all black so they cannot be seen. Participants are given a bag with a BBG cut into different
pieces)

Jordan: Welcome to the B„nai B„rith Youth Organization.
Michelle: An organization where YOU, as a Jewish Teen, have the power to make a difference.
Lauren: BBYO has the power to completely change your life within 4 years.
Sam: It has the power to transform you into the person you„ve always yearned to become.
Allie: It has the ability to create sisters out of strangers, and make leaders out of
—followers“.
Nicole: It can take a shy girl, and create a strong and inspirational BBG.
Michelle: Keeping this in mind, in order for this organization to make an impact on your life, you
must allow BBYO to take you by the hand and lead you to places where you have only dreamed of
going.
Lauren: Take advantage of every meeting, Saturday night program, and regional convention.
Allie: Introduce yourself to as many BBG‟s as humanly possible.
Sam: Run for leadership positions.
Michelle: My sisters of Atlanta Council B„nai B„rith girls: I challenge you to take a chance---
Lauren: Give BBG a chance.
Sam: Strive to become an active member.
Michelle: Support your chapter.
Lauren: Discover your —“place” in this organization
Sam: Dream of where your BBG heart beat can take you…
(From the spot of the circle where they are standing…)
Jordan: A chapter meeting, function or fundraiser; on the outside it appears to the plain eye
to be just a bunch of girls getting together.
Allie: Once you put on your x-ray glasses, it is so much more. You are now able to see the
vision beyond the first glance.
Nicole: You can see friendship, sisters, traditions and fun that come along with these
events.
Jordan: You can see an older member taking a younger member under her wing and making
her vision of BBG change.
Allie: Before your eyes your visions of this organization will change. You will see that
there is so much more to this order that meets the eye.
Nicole: My sister B„nai B„rith Girls, look beyond what your eyes can see, look for the vision
that Anita Perlman saw, look for your own vision of what BBG should be to you.
Jordan: We„re not saying that you need to be extremely active and attend every possible
event, but you must simply make your vision of BBG your reality.
Allie: This organization is only what you make it to be, what you see it as. You may see it
differently each year of high school, but it is normal and expect that your vision will be
altered before your eyes.
Nicole: Freshman year is exciting in BBYO. You see new faces and you look up to the older
girls of your chapter. Everything is new to you but your vision of BBG is purely your chapter.
When you think of BBYO you see the 38 smiling faces of the girls in your chapter.
Jordan: Sophomore year you see things in a new light. BBYO is still exciting and mostly
about the chapter but now you have met many people in the region. Your vision of BBYO has
changed. You now see the cute AZA that you met at New Member, you see your new
best friends from Kallah and your vision of BBYO now includes your chapter as well as the rest
of the council.
Allie: Junior year your vision changes once again and you recognize the region as a
whole rather than seeing each chapter individually. You see that each chapter does work
together to help create the concil and help it to become strong.
Nicole: Senior year you pass your vision on to others. You finally see what BBYO is all about
and you want the incoming freshman to continue your vision that you work so hard to achieve.
Jordan: A chapter meeting, function or fundraiser; on the outside it appears to the plain eye
to be just a bunch of girls getting together.
Allie: look beyond the piety fights, the AZAs, and the lost elections.
Nicole: Instead look at the separate programs that brought you to tears, all the hard work put into
S.R.C Runoffs, and the sisterhood sleepovers where sleep was just a word.
Jordan: At first glance BBG is just an organization but once you take the time to look through
the looking glass you will be able to find your own vision of what BBYO truly is.
Allie: for each person the vision is different; just make sure your vision can come alive for
you.
Jordan: How do you see yourself in this organization? Please take out the Vision part of your
BBG and write where you see yourself in this organization.
(Play What a Wonderful World)
Michelle: To you just re-entering B'nai B'rith Girls we extend a warm welcome. You are a
member of the largest organization of young Jewish women in the world. B'nai B'rith Girls has
given to thousands the wonderful opportunity of developing leadership among girls and young
women. At the same time you are enabled to relate to the young men of the Aleph Zadik
Aleph and work together with them towards a better society and a stronger Jewish community
under the banner of the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization.
The unique B'nai B'rith Girls way of life helps you find and express your Jewish identity while
expanding your circle of friends. There is no one path to Jewish commitment. BBG offers you
the chance to acquire knowledge and to make choices.
Your first choice was your decision to become a part of BBG. You now have choices of
activities and also the choice of how much of yourself you will invest in this great cause. The
more of yourself that you will give to BBG, the more you will receive.
Shalom, Anita M. Perlman

Nicole: OMG, yesterday it was like really snowy outside, and when I was walking into school
I totally didn„t want to get my new Ugg boots or my Sevens dirty.
Lauren: Omg, what„d you do?!
Nicole: I made my little sister„s friends walk in front of me so I wouldn„t get my designer
clothes dirty.
Lauren: I totally do that all the time!!
Nicole: Ok, we know you„re probably thinking ”what does that have to do with this program?„
Lauren: But we swear we have a point.
Nicole: —Understand that the right to choose your own path is a sacred privilege. Use it.

Lauren: —I don„t wanna be the next anybody… I want to be the first me.“- Vanessa Carlton
Nicole: —In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different“ -Coco Chanel
Nicole: Entering BBG, everyone has a choice.
Lauren: You choose what chapter to join,
Nicole: what programs to attend,
Lauren: what boy to fall for,
Nicole: and even how active you want to be.
Lauren: Your four years in BBG are determined by which path you choose.
Nicole: When you enter BBG, you are following the footprints that someone else has left for
you.
Lauren: Following the same path that they once took while at the same time, having the
ability to do things differently… in your own way. The choices you make in BBG will remain
long after you graduate.
Nicole: Your journey in BBG is about developing a legacy, a character, and a footprint that
is worth leaving behind. Something you can look back on and be proud of.
Lauren: Something that other people will want to follow.
Nicole: You want people to think of you and how you inspired them, how you changed their
life, or made them a better person.
Lauren: You are a role model. Everyone in this room is.
Nicole: Whether it is an older girl, a younger girl, or even someone of the same age that
looks up to you, you have made a difference in someone else„s life just by being you.
Lauren: You may think of yourself as JUST a member, but you are so much more than that.
Nicole: You are a B„nai Brith Girl and our organization can only succeed with our influence,
Lauren: our passion,
Nicole: and our drive.
Lauren: It„s up to us to make our four years everything that we want it to be.
Nicole: By choosing the path that fits each of us the best, only then are we able to leave
behind our footprints and give someone else the chance to find their way.
Lauren: Think of BBG as a Choose Your Own Adventure Book.
Nicole: Each of us has been given the opportunity to make the most of our four years… to
choose our own path.
Lauren: What you get out of BBG depends on what you put into it.
Nicole: Going back to our skit in the beginning, we want you to create your own journey.
Lauren: The footprints in the snow are left behind for you as a guide, but in order to venture
through the snow to a different location, sometimes you have to risk getting your boots and
jeans a little wet.
Nicole and Lauren: And by looking around this room tonight, we can assure you that it„s
worth it
Jordan: Where do you want this organization to take you? Please take out the footprints part of
your BBG and write where you want BBG to take you.

Jordan: Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers.
Sam: The round pegs in the square holes.
Allie: The one who sees things differently.
Michele: They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo.
Jordan: You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, about the only thing
you can't do is ignore them.
Sam: Because they change things.
Allie: They push the human race forward.
Michelle: And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because people who
are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do. - Apple
My Sister B'nai B'rith Girls,
This year I challenge you to be crazy. I challenge you to think differently. I challenge you
to be real. I challenge you to stop caring about what other people think and to embrace the
person that you are. I challenge you to scream out ideas that you have even when you think
that others will shut them down. I challenge you to never give up - through lost elections,
broken hearts, and struggling chapters. I challenge you to be as crazy as you want to be,
because being crazy means that you're nothing like anyone else.
My Sisters, this year we will be the crazy ones. Because we will believe, deep down, that
we can change the world. We will believe that we can change our Order, that we can change
our regions, and that we can change our chapters. We will believe that we can be ourselves
even when we are scared to be too different, because we will know that making a difference
only comes easily when we are being exactly who we truly are.
BBGs, I have to be honest - I am the crazy one. I see things differently. People think I'm
weird sometimes, and I am perfectly ok with that. I hate being ignored. I refuse to stand still.
I yearn to make a difference, I proud to call myself a B'nai B'rith Girl. I will dedicate every
waking moment of this year to our Order, because I believe in the members that are a part of
it. I am your International N'siah, I am crazy.
Are you ready to be crazy too?
Respectfully Submitted With Undying Love for Every
B'nai B'rith Girl, for our Order, for Being Crazy,
Shauna Ann Ruda

Jordan: Hands. Most do not realize their power or feel the impact of a single touch. A
hand can be used to inspire, help, comfort, or motivate. In this organization, a hand can be a
very powerful and vital tool.
Sam: Hands inspire. “Shabbat at CLTC is incredible. The singing, the dancing, and the
traditions, are like nothing you can explain. There is a spirit in the atmosphere that I have
never found anywhere else. On my first Shabbat at CLTC, the 64 of us gathered around with
Kallah West. Their emotion, their spirit and the songs they sang were inspirational. They
each sang with all of their heart, pronouncing each Hebrew syllable, singing it at the top of
their lungs! They gave each song a beat and a rhythm. They had each of us reaching with
our hands. They were standing on their chairs, dancing around the dining hall, putting their
all into celebrating this one special day of the week. Together they chanted —Na na, na na na
na na, na na na na na, na na na na na. He nay matov he nay ma tovu manayim. Shevet achim
achim gam Yachad.“ As each CLTCer stood anxious and confused, Emily Hyatt, the 59
th International N„siah grabbed my hand. As she touched my hand, it was as if a little bit of her
love and dedication for this organization rubbed off on me, just enough to inspire me to join in
on the joyous celebration of the Sabbath. Hands have the power to inspire.”Danielle, CLTC 7 2004
Allie: Hands help. There are many people in this community who do not share the same
opportunities that all of us do. Whether it„s community service, a bottle drive, or even just
giving money to I$F, all members directly or indirectly help others by the use of hands. When
visiting the Ann Arbor chapter this year for their 6-fold function, the community service
project was to make Rosh Hashanah baskets for members of a nursing home. Not only was
the project simple and easy, it most likely made some person feel amazing by knowing that
someone else cared and hopefully helped them get through the day. Hands have the power to
help.
Michelle: Hands comfort. This idea is one that never disappears, but only grows as each BBG
experiences it first hand. A hand is so important in the reality that you can touch someone
with it. No, not just like giving them a high five, but really touching them spiritually. Close
your eyes. Remember a time when you needed to be comforted. Did someone give you a hand
to make it better, did they blow you a kiss, or did they give you a hug to make the pain go
away? In any case, a hand has been there for you. Hands have the power to comfort.
Allie: Hands motivate. It is sometimes hard for someone when faced with difficult
problems and many tasks to keep on going with a positive attitude. With this in mind, it is
very easy in this organization to become stressed and reach a point where you just want to
give up. However, every time when you feel like there is no one to turn to, you find someone
who is always willing to lend a hand. There was a time in the process of planning a program, that I
needed a little motivation. I was met with many who offered to help and do
anything that they could. Their willingness and dedication to this organization motivated me
to work harder and get things done. Hands have the power to motivate.
Sam: Take a look at your hands. There are no two that are the same, yet every hand has
the power to make a difference. Take a chance: inspire, help, comfort, or motivate. It is now
up to you.
Jordan: What B„nai B„rith girl has taken you by the hand, and given you the inspiration? Please
take out the Hands piece of your BBG and write who has taken you by the hand and given you
the inspiration.

Jordan: My Sister B„nai B„rith Girls of Atlanta Council,
My most challenging moment in BBG was having my sisters doubt my potential. At first
it hurt that they questioned me, but it showed me they were making sure that our future was
in the right hands. They had the heart and the love to do what is best for their organization;
they had the best intentions of BBG in their heart.
When your heart is in BBYO, doing the right thing can be difficult. Although some of
you have only spent a year as a part of this Order, you are sitting here to take part in
the future. Your smile will now be plastered across brochures, your creativity will be used for
new programs and your heartbeat will keep our flame alive.
Oftentimes you will not see
your potential, but others will show you. Oftentimes you will feel like you do not belong, but
others will give you a home. Oftentimes you will find it hard to love this organization, but you
will find it even harder to shut it out of your life. I have felt those emotions. I am a true B„nai
Birth Girl because I have questioned my love, been doubted and felt like I didn„t belong and
continued in this organization. It is my wish that each of you develop a deep respect for your
chapter, this Council and the entire International Order.
Take hold of the past, bring our traditions into the present and allow those traditions
to grow and multiply into the future. I cannot tell you to love BBG, but if you do, I hope that
you will show others your love. Realize that your role in BBG is always changing. You will no
longer have someone to guide you and show you the way. It is now a new journey and it is
scary, frustrating and you will at times wonder why this is worth it. But those who made you
fall in love with this order felt the same way. Look at the innocence and curiosity in new
member„s eyes. There is a sense of wonder and uncertainty that will make you fall in love
with BBG all over again. Please blur the lines between age and grade. There are no rules that
say a younger member cannot change the face of this organization. Put a little too much trust
into what others have to say and take their advice. Idolize your role models, tell them thank
you for changing your life. Give others credit for how you feel. Treasure every moment, but
more importantly treasure every girl. Never take anything for granted, but more importantly
never settle for the way things are. Believe in yourself, but more importantly believe in the
power of community. Don„t allow BBG to be just ordinary, but more importantly recognize the
power your love has. Take care of the B„nai B„rith Girls, but more importantly respect and
care for every girl. This is the power of love.
Respectfully submitted with an undying respect and love for Atlanta Council of the B„nai B„rith
Girls,
Jordan Hillary Brezel

Nicole: —Treasure it. Treasure the laughter that makes your face hurt, treasure the times you
act so incredibly immature and stupid that you will have a hard time believing you ever did
something so ridiculous, treasure the fights, treasure the crying happy or sad, but most
importantly treasure the friendships. Learn as much as you can in your short time in the
organization be it in life skills or leadership. Always act with kindness and dignity and
always make your chapter proud. Learn from one another and pass on what you have
learned. Make the most of your time...treasure it.“
Michelle: These were the words spoken by the first voices that inspired us in BBG.
Nicole: Voice
Michelle: Noun. The ability to produce such sounds.
Nicole: Each one of you is here because of someone„s voice.
Michelle: Be it a phone call or the word around school, somehow you got here.
Nicole: Each and every one of you needs your voice to express yourself.
Michelle: Scream your chapter cheers.
Nicole: Yell out the BBG Pep Song.
Michelle: Voice your opinion at chapter meetings.
Nicole: Tell people you are proud to be a B„nai Brith Girl.
Michelle: There is more than one voice in BBYO.
Lauren: It„s not just Anita.
Sam: It„s not just Jana.
Allie: It„s not just your chapter Advisor.
Nicole: It„s not just Council Board.
Jordn: It„s not just your N„siah.
Michelle: It„s every single member.
Lauren: As members, each one of us has a voice in BBG.
Sam: How you use it, is up to you.
Allie: I may not be the loudest voice, but that doesn„t change the fact that I have a voice.

Sam: —The greatest risk you will take is not taking one at all“
My Sister B„nai B„rith Girls-
It„s your turn to take a risk. When I ran for chapter N„siah, I had no idea what I was
getting myself into. The weekly emails that took way too long to write, the nightly phone
calls, which took hours, and the ideas that popped into my head hourly. There was no stop to
the madness, no time to breath and sleeping was a rare occurrence. I have vivid memories
of sitting at my computer in tears out of pure frustration. The workload became overwhelming
and I felt as though no one understood. As I sat there with teary eyes, at 2am I was
convinced I was going to resign the next morning.
My sisters, I took a risk. Although being N„siah posed more issues than one
person is capable of handling, I overcame these problems. I believed in the council board, I
believed in my chapter, but most importantly I believed in myself. The forced smiles, the
tears, the sleepless nights…it was ALL worth it!
With undying love for the chapter members who inspired and had faith in me,
I remain,
a dedicated chapter N„siah
(From the spot of the circle where they are standing…)
Lauren: To dare is to lose one's footing momentarily. To not dare is to lose oneself.
Soren Kierkegaard
Sam: A relatively new and successful chapter's N„siah referred to the early years as
"bushwhacking", blindly swinging and trying, until somehow, miraculously everything seemed
to fall into place.
Lauren: Nobody educated them, showed the ropes, or handed down successful rituals or
traditions.
Sam: They created it,
Lauren: they paved the path for the journey that the next generation will soon depart on.
Sam: They showed the meaning of BBG: true success doesn't arrive with a pre-established
notion of victory, but rather a blind plunge known as RISK.
Lauren: Risk is an often-overlooked component in BBG, yet it surrounds us on the path to
success.
Sam: Imagine standing before the council at ACSC, knees shaking as your platform
circulates the room. A well-practiced speech nervously rolls off your tongue as you begin
the first step to assuming leadership of this council.
Lauren: Serving a position is indeed a risk: starting with the decision to run and continuing
throughout the term.
Sam: We are privileged to be surrounded with many great leaders who have turned risk
into opportunity to create BBG as we know it.
Lauren: Ask any girl about her most memorable experience in BBG. While all, may highlight
various programs and components, there will always be one common factor: the people.
Sam: even meeting new people is a risk. There's an uncertain variable in joining a chapter
or approaching new people.
Lauren: Yet somehow this never manages to be an issue; the risk is masked in how we are
all sisters.
Sam: You will find yourself in a room of your best friends.
Lauren: There has been a reoccurring theme this year in "where BBG can take us".
Sam: Subject to various interpretations, one challenges us to allow BBG to guide us in an
undefined journey to a personal destination.
Allie: I offer you a different viewpoint- rather than simply allow BBG to steer such an
expedition, take the reins and rather YOU lead the way.
Lauren: The question then becomes "where can you take BBG?".
Sam: Where can you begin tradition to last for decades?
Allie: Where can you break the mold only to find unchartered areas of opportunity?
Lauren: Where can you reach out and inspire others?
Sam: Where can you be the one who tries, fails, learns, succeeds, makes the difference,
and lights the way?
Allie: As you leave tonight and begin the actual navigation of your journey, I hand you no
detailed map, but rather merely a compass.
Lauren : The compass marked by morals, virtues, the six folds, and our sisters' past.
Sam: Use it for direction,
Allie: but don't be frightened to stray of the road.
Lauren: This is your BBG.
Sam: What risks have you taken?

Nicole: My sister B„nai B„rith Girls,
I stand before you a member. Many may say I am the essence of the B„nai B„rith Girls.
Without members like me, the chapters would be nothing… there would be no regions and the
international order would simply not exist. My passion, pride, and energy is what BBG is all
about. Some run for council board, some chapter N„siot and some even are a part of the
International board. I have not chosen to take any of these roles, yet I still have made a huge
impact. My contribution is putting all my love into being a B„nai B„rith Girl and taking
advantage of every opportunity available. I make the most of every function, talk during every
meeting, and go to conventions just to meet boys. However, I am the reason there are
chapter functions, I am the reason there are chapter meetings, I am the reason there are council and
regional conventions. My name may not be remembered 50 years from now,
but what I have given to this order will be. I didn„t hold a position on any of the three levels,
yet I still held the best position of all; a chapter member. I have left my mark on the
International Order. I am the girl who wrote the BBG Heartbeat.
With undying love and dedication for each and every member of the B„nai B„rith Girls and the
potential we have to make a difference,
I remain
A proud chapter member and the author of the BBG Heartbeat
Michelle: Close your eyes, put your hand on your heart and take a second to discover the
power that lies within each and every one of you.

Jordan: Feel the everlasting passion you have for being a B„nai B„rith Girl.
Nicole: Remember the intense race of your heart while screaming the BBG Pep Song knowing
thousands of girls across the order are doing the same.
Michelle: Think of the heaviness of your heart when you have to say good-bye to the seniors who
have given you the inspiration.
Jordan: Recall the anticipation and the race of your heart as you walked into your first
program.
Nicole: Where were you when the magic of your BBG Heartbeat began?
Michelle: —The human heart feels things the eyes cannot see, and knows what the mind cannot
understand“
Jordan: For 62 years, girls around the world have struggled to put into words what being a
B„nai B„rith Girl means to them.
Nicole: You cannot hear, taste, smell it or hold BBG in your hand. The feeling of being a
B„nai B„rith Girl is intangible.
Michelle: No matter how many positions you have held or years you have spent here --- there are
still no words to explain how it feels to be a BBG.
Jordan: The power and impact of this organization depends on the existence of your heartbeat.
Nicole: Believe
Michelle: Conquer
Jordan: Inspire
Allie: Allow the feeling to become contagious.

Michelle: No chapter is perfect; all of us have our flaws.
Lauren: Don„t be the member that falls through the crack, but the member that acts as the glue
to keeps your chapter together.
Sam: Discover an identity…
The B„nai B„rith youth organization is the largest youth led organization in the world. Because
of her accomplishments, Anita Perlman was able to make a name for herself and is now
recognized by thousands of girls across the world. You as a B„nai B„rith Girl, like Anita, have
the ability to find yourself and therefore accomplish the unimaginable.
Allie: Write your own definition…
Don„t be afraid to look inside and discover the true you. Take off the layers of paint you may
brush on every morning in order to hide your so-called —“weaknesses” and allow your true
colors to shine. This organization will never judge you… it will give you the opportunity to find
yourself and who you want to become. Define what it means to be a B„nai B„rith Girl.
Nicole: Initiate traditions…
It took a single girl to inspire the world and carry on the tradition she created. She refused to
be the member who was lost along the broken road, but instead gave our chapters a common
bond. Every region, chapter and B„nai B„rith Girl knows the unique —glue that fills our so
called —home. The combination of pretzels and frosting allows us to unite thousands of girls
in this organization
Jordan: Develop your own philosophies…
Not only does this organization make an everlasting and memorable impact on your four years
of high school, but BBYO is also a representation of the real world. This microcosm has
unconsciously given you the lessons to succeed in life after high school. Allow yourself to
take advantage of every opportunity you can to speak your mind. Your voice is valued more
than you will ever comprehend…
My sister B„nai B„rith Girls,
The pieces may have fallen out of place; a little mixed up; or seem to have gone astray. Soon
enough, the big picture will emerge, and the fallen pieces will miraculously pick themselves
up.
You, as a B„nai B„rith Girl, have the unbelievable potential to take your pieces and put
them into place. No other organization allows teens to make a difference. Create your vision
through your own eyes. The outcome is up to you…
Michelle: Where did you first recognize that BBG may have become your home?
Lauren: The B„nai B„rith girls are the sisters g-d forgot to give us…
Sam: What gives you the inspiration to continue on your journey through this organization?
Allie: The inspiration to confidently make an impact on others…
Nicole: Who was the spark that kindled your BBG flame?
Jordan: The flame capable of lighting millions…
Michelle: What or who has kept your BBG heart beat from fading away?
Lauren: The beat that reminds you to never let go of this organization...
Sam: Although we recognize the difficulty of putting your personal BBG heartbeat into words,
Allie: we would like you to take a moment, reach into your heart, and discover the person,
thing, or intangible object that has been the reason for you to dream big, cherish your sisters,
and never doubt this organization.
Nicole: We challenge you to put all of your pieces together in order to discover the aspect of
this incredible order that reminds us day after day to never lose sight of where we came from.
Jordan: Again, we ask you to close your eyes, put your hand on your heart and feel the
strength.
(Pause)
??Please one by one, tell us your heartbeat…
(Each girl tells their Heartbeat)??/
