Professor Koiller, the recipient of the prestigious L’Oréal-UNESCO award for women in science, is one of
the most prominent physicists in Latin America. Her leadership extends beyond the realm of science into
the area of human rights for repressed scientists and scholars.
Her lecture will focus on how the establishment of quantum mechanics has revolutionized our
understanding of materials, enabling modern devices like computers and cell phones. She will show
how the development of nanoscience will play a major role in future applications such as quantum
computing.
