Patenting SPANX

make her dream a reality. After sufficient research she began to write the patent herself and then
hired a lawyer to help her to write the claims. Soon afterward, the patent for SPANX was approved
and she was onto her next adventure. Having the patent was just the beginning of revolutionising
how a woman could look and feel in her clothes.
The Manufacturing Process
Not many people believed in this idea but she was able to finally convince someone to
manufacture her creation. It was a good thing she did, because millions of women all over the
world have benefitted from Spanx body shapers and the designs have given women much more
confidence in their overall, everyday life.
The Packaging Design for SPANX
Part of selling a product like body shapers is in the appearance and how women would respond to
the garments. Sara knew that the packaging needed to catch the attention of women, but the
packaging could not be offensive to women's view of her own body. She decided to go with a
bright red packaging and the humorous tagline, "Don't worry, we've got your butt covered."
SPANX began initially as a product sold at Neiman Marcus and soon to follow was Saks,
Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and many other well-known retail stores.
Ever since then, the Story of Spanx has continued to blossom. This amazing body shaping
