Psoriasis mainly affects the elbows, scalp, knees, fingernails, lower back but can affect many
other areas of the body. Although a psoriasis cure is currently unavailable, psoriasis treatment
usually involves controlling and managing flare-ups. While there are many treatment options, it is
important to remember that finding psoriasis home treatment remedies from your kitchen is easier
than you think.
Psoriasis is derived from the word for "itch" in the Greek language. Psoriasis is usually evidenced
by raised patches of skin that are scaly and/or red that can itch, burn or sting. This chronic skin
condition can be quite unsightly and lead to a loss of confidence and self esteem by the sufferer
which makes finding psoriasis treatments that work all the more important.
Psoriasis causes are currently unknown although people with a family history of this chronic
condition may be at a higher risk of developing this disease when certain factors apply. This skin
condition is not contagious. This disease is evidenced by an abnormal immune system that
causes the skin cells to regenerate at a faster pace than is considered normal.
Normal skin regeneration occurs when skin cells mature and are discarded about every 28 to 30
days. A psoriasis sufferer's skin regeneration takes place every 3 to four days leading to the
unsightly piling up of skin on top of skin. The pinkish red appearance is due to the blood supply
that feeds the rapidly regenerating skin.
Psoriasis flare-ups can result from many causes such as exposure to the sun, stress, cuts on the
skin, infection, a reaction to a drug, etc. There are many types of psoriasis and the most common
type that is found in approximately 90% of psoriasis cases is known as plaque psoriasis. Plaque
psoriasis causes oval shaped silvery scales on the skin.
There are certain home remedies for psoriasis that you can start implementing starting today.
Psoriasis home treatment with various remedies easily prepared at home is cost effective and can
help you avoid the high doctor's bills and expensive prescription medications. The simplest home

your stress levels also.
Psoriasis home treatment recipes from the kitchen
1. Baking soda can be used to relieve the itch of psoriasis. Prepare a paste with water and some
baking soda - about 3 gallons of water and 1 1/2 cups of baking soda - and apply this mixture to
the itchy patches of skin with a piece of cloth.
2. Calendula oil is also a great soothing agent for the itch, sting or burn from psoriasis. Treat the
psoriasis symptoms by mixing about 2 cups of dried calendula flowers with about 1 teaspoon of
vitamin oil and 1 quart virgin oil (extra virgin).
Warm the olive oil over low heat and do not simmer. Stir in the calendula flowers and leave
uncovered for up to 24 hours stirring every now and then. Strain this mixture making sure to press
the oil out of the flowers. Add the vitamin E oil. Rub the mixture onto the itching, burning or
stinging patches of skin. Can be stored for up to six months in a refrigerator.
3. Apple cider is also very good at alleviating the itching and burning associated with psoriasis in
addition to calming skin inflammations. Mix one cup of apple cider to one gallon of water and apply
directly to the problem areas with a cloth.
4. If you suffer from scalp psoriasis which can be extremely embarrassing, use a bit of olive oil to
massage into the scalp. Leave on for a few minutes and shampoo normally with the medicated
shampoo that you use for the scalp psoriasis.
