NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECT DIRECTIONS

Before you Begin

 Look at the example project done by John Wood (teacher at Roosevelt)



Step 1

Open the PowerPoint Template to see where you are going!!!!!

 Save the PowerPoint template (FILE, SAVE AS) “YourNameNeighborhood”

Example: “RannowNeighborhood”



Step 2

Find your house. Type in your address and see your house the following ways:

Google Earth (Program in your Applications folder)

 Save a copy of your neighborhood from Satellite (EDIT, COPY IMAGE)

 Insert image into Page 5 of your PowerPoint (EDIT, PASTE)

Google Maps: www.google.com

 Save your neighborhood street map (click PRINT, stop the print & click FILE, SAVE

AS, name it “Google Map” put into your documents folder)

 Insert image into Page 4 of your PowerPoint (INSERT, PICTURE, FROM FILE, find

“Google Map” in your documents folder, OPEN)

Google Street View: www.google.com

Google Satellite: www.google.com

Step 3

Find your neighborhood and learn about your neighborhood

Minneapolis Neighborhoods: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/about/maps/neighborhoods.asp

 Find your Neighborhood Name in “Citywide Neighborhood Boundaries” map

 Fill out page 1 of your Power Point (Neighborhood Name, Your Name, & Date)

 Move the Yellow Circle on page 2 of your Power Point to your neighborhood area

 Go Back to “City Neighborhood Maps”, click on yours, & Save it as “Neighborhood

Map” in your documents folder using the Floppy Picture

 Insert image of your neighborhood into Page 3 of Power Point (INSERT, PICTURE,

FROM FILE, find “Neighborhood Map” in your documents folder, OPEN)

 Describe and explain those places on pages 13-17 of the PowerPoint

Step 10

Identify five ways to improve your neighborhood (see what you wrote for the state of the neighborhood) and tell

why an effort should be made to make those improvements.

FINAL TOUCHES!!!

Insert picture of yourself or a place in your neighborhood

 Find a picture on Google Images or an image you have & save the picture in your documents folder

 Insert the picture into page 1 of your Power Point (INSERT, PICTURE, FROM FILE)

Take & insert digital photos to show the 5 best things and the 5 ways to improve your neighborhood

(Extra Credit for Hour 1 & 3)
