◆ The Jones Sewing Machine Company was established in 1859 by
William Jones, who developed various types of special machines,
but a
very large portion of the factory’s production was in the field of
domestic models.
◆ The Brother operation in the UK began in 1959 in London. F&:
◆ Brother acquired 40% of the shares in Jones Sewing Machine
Company
in 1968, as a basis for marketing their range of sewing and
knitting
machines, typewriters, industrial sewing machines. Both
companies were
merged, and the operation was subsequently moved to
Manchester
◆ Jones became wholly owned by Brother in 1972.
◆ The strength of the Jones name gave more opportunity for the 10
