Making A Marriage

When love is there for all to see

Like Angela and Anthony

So manifest in all they share

When joined they’ll make a perfect pair

With God’s help in preparation

Marriage has a strong foundation

They will have made a thing sublime

Which will with stand the tests of time

A marriage thus made once begun

Brings a life of love faith and fun

2005020

Home

Joy is having a place to go

Whose pathway there true love does show

Such an abode we sorely seek

For there we could our true mind speak

No fears no recriminations

Home is such a destination

2005021

Sophistication

Sophistication is a thing

Of which intellectuals sing

But it’s a thing that I decry

It means naivety did die

And they with sophistry have won

All truth and honor are undone

But I don’t despair I can cope

Because my love and faith bring hope

To me Lincoln’s words are sublime

Not all the people all the time

2005022

Our Political System

When solving problems we use certain tools

When choosing tools we try not to be fools

A devastating tool has been chosen

And its use is now solidly frozen

It’s the guiding light for every action

Its use not the ends bring satisfaction

Sad to say it is not easily fixed

It is our Congress’s party politics

Each is elected to think and decide

With party politics thinking’s denied

They no longer represent me and you

Why aren’t they embarrassed by what they do

Democracy is dying everyday

I pray God help them who have lost their way

Certain Rights

When a human being is born rights accrue

When examined these basic rights are few

You have a right to live and a right to die

But you have no right to know the reason why

2005024

Why I Vote To Elect You

When I vote for you to represent me

What I expect can be said quite simply

Gather information think and decide

Put other considerations aside

That means that you should never swap your vote

Do not follow the party line by rote

It does not matter if you win or lose

What does matter is that you think and chose

So please put all the politics aside

Then just use your wonderful brain inside

2005025

Thought

As I watched a thousand people flying overhead

I knew I was either dead or at home in my bed

It is really funny how my mind conceives of thought

And though thought is so important it was never taught

2005026

Commitment

I did not do it yet today

But will tomorrow’s yesterday

You know full well it is not fun

Yet you still want the job well done

Since it is best done without light

Is why most times it’s done at night

As you now leave do not forget

That the schedule set will be met

The Artist’s Shack

Though it was called the artist’s shack

Like the other side of the track

‘Twas shabby and run down not new

But had a spectacular view

With long held curiosity

Today its insides we shall see

Making A Tough Decision

When it’s pride and self-sufficiency

Combined with ends VS means we see

And annihilation’s one option

There is still one remaining question

Is it just for me I’m deciding

To accept death for my own being

If no other beings are involved

Is a thing more easily resolved

But if it is for others I decide

I could put some principles aside

For their suffering could cease to be

A requirement for me to see

2005029

Her Retirement

Speaking tonight I feel quite free

To show our love for Dorothy

There are so many reasons why

To explain them all I will not try

Though what I say will not be new

You all will know that it is true

Some words about her school career

She worked hard and was quite sincere

Good teachers are a special breed

They help fulfill a basic need

Right after food and family

Learning’s our next necessity

She taught beyond things required

She taught things that are most desired

She taught the use of intellect

By requiring their respect

Done in that understanding way

Her love and faith always convey

These made her work superior

And are the things we love her for

It’s difficult to know what’s meant

By Dottie Zale’s retirement

She is a lady with so much class

I doubt she’ll sit around on her grass

As mother grandmother and nurse

Her applications will be diverse

And loving ways’ll come in handy

Of course there is always Andy

Two Sides

It is spring so we know they will go

Those isolated patches of snow

Like any other farewell in life

Two sides exist the fun and the strife

We might not sense both are happening

Though some of each is in everything

In time we will see the other side

Unless we lock it out with false pride

2005031

An Attitude

The things I say and do are often done

With the hope of establishing some fun

You know and I know what I really am

But too so many I am just a sham

Instead of being able to refute

It is much more likely I will go mute

The manor it’s presented is the key

If they should display animosity

They will then learn the type person I am

For I’ll show them that I don’t give a damn

Strange But True

I am writing with one condition

You tell no one without my permission

When a thing that is strange and weird happens

You find you are quite happy when it ends

Of course the beginnings the place to start

Within ourselves we think are quite smart

And we know how to take care of ourselves

Our mind’s the one place where mystery dwells

It was our summer place there was no phone

The family had left so I was alone

No one would believe what I’m going to say

But it’s true I still hear that voice today

It said “A spell’s been cast over your mind

The spell’s full extent is not yet defined

If you get both the present and the past

It will shorten the time the spell will last”

My mind went blank as if it were frozen

When it thawed I asked why was I chosen

The answer I got was quite straightforward

Because I was known to distain reward

That is true but now what am I to do

Please tell me because I don’t have a clue

Pick a person time and learn what they did

You’ll see and hear it nothing will be hid

So I did exactly as it had said

And saw and heard each detail in my head

I learned the truth of a jury’s debate

I saw Noah’s Ark and saw what they eat

When I heard many famous people speak

I learned the courageous were sometimes meek

I knew in an instant things that took days

When all was finished I felt in a daze

With all that knowledge I had one regret

It was my ability to forget

2005033

Players

Since news is in the money game

Truth and news aren’t always the same

Both were when the news did begin

But in the end they want to win

This same point was made years ago

In a mystery story by Poe

Many things that we think are new

Have been known for years to be true

We minimize the mystery

When we study our history

Our World

My life with you in your first year

Showed me I had a new career

Way back then when you were just one

There was some work but it was fun

As I recall when you were two

I never knew what you would do

When you became the age of three

You could communicate with me

Since that day when you became four

My life has never been a bore

Starting kindergarten at five

Ended a world we can’t revive

And though we know that world is gone

The memories still linger on

2005035

Chipmunks

I love to watch the chipmunks run

I love to watch them as they play

They’re always having so much fun

It seems it’s all they do all day

My jealous eyes what have they seen

A life that seems to be serene

2005036

Marilyn Quint Rose At The Clown

Dynamic art and what it shows

Is what Marilyn Quint Rose knows

Since she is showing at The Clown

She’s again the talk of the town

And this time all of Maine will see

When it is shown on Maine TV

Marilyn’s three-dimensional style

Makes people stop and think a while

To many this show does infer

June is busting out all over

Running A Business

To understand the theory X

It is quite simple not complex

You must watch workers all the time

Or else they might commit the crime

The crime is that along with work

Responsibilities they’ll shirk

Therefore you must be vigilant

Let them know you are not content

Theory Y on the other hand

Says show them you do understand

You know that they came to work

They’d not show up just to shirk

When performance is low ask why

You know there’s more then meets the eye

When you help them solve their problem

You’ll then get the most out of them

For real success the one to try

Is never X but always Y

2005038

Plans

If I get up and try to write

It will not be a wasted night

What makes the writer use their pen

Artists use their pallet again

I’m sure for some the reason’s clear

I pray the reason is not fear

Instead what I’m trying to do

Is bring some pleasantness to you

I don’t want appreciation

What I want is conversation

2005039

Decisions Of Youth

To achieve the life that they seek

Youth chose sex or being a freak

I will say this in their defense

It is style over common sense

2005040

Sue’s Operation

We know that God will hear our plea

To help Sue Peters with her knee

Through the years of struggle and pain

Sue was not the type to complain

So when the operation’s done

Her life will have a lot more fun

She still won’t run the marathon

But her discomfort will be gone

We see it as another test

And we know Sue will do her best

Reading Poetry

When you are reading poetry

It is not only what you see

To make a good delivery

Both pause and emphasis are key

Like a puzzle or mystery

Your thinking solves it one two three

2005042

A Thank You

I am not someone who likes to gloat

But today I got the greatest note

I found myself very much impressed

By the thoughts and the way they’re expressed

A thank you is always a nice thing

With this thank you poem I am hoping

Hannah will understand my intent

Is to bring to her some enjoyment

2005043

What Life Is About

What we assume is all a game

We do not know from whence we came

Like wise we know no reason why

No one answer will satisfy

Yet answers are a basic need

Brains need some thing to which to heed

Exact answers I do not know

But my conjectures I’ll now show

Basic conjecture number one

I believe we’re here to have fun

The thing on which this thought does rest

Is that our time here is a test

Can we while living here on earth

Produce a life of joy and mirth

We have the most powerful tool

To use wisely or as a fool

Our brain is what it’s all about

Within’s the answer not without

This one perspective is the key

To keep your life from misery

When love and faith you truly learn

You’ll pass the test have no concern

2005044

MIT

Gone is the innocence of my youth

I’ve learned it’s Money Instead of Truth

I guess it has always been that way

Certainly in Galileo’s day

Though today it appears that I fail

I know my ideas will prevail

Change Course

Even on the sea of sanity

Mix a drive for flexibility

With some strong minded stupidity

Causing a lose of tranquility

And though you have created a mess

It is a change so call it progress

Add doing good as part of the goal

And intelligence will pay the toll

Once inside this box the world we see

Is the only one with sanity

Couple this with an established need

Money which can quickly turn to greed

Which in turn distorts so many scenes

When coupled with ends justifies means

But keep the faith do not give up hope

With our intelligence we can cope

We will right the ship and change its course

With minimum use of any force

Each individual has control

So each can establish their own goal

We stop doing things because we’re told

And then a whole new world will unfold

It is our thinking will set us free

By taking responsibility

The satisfaction you’ll then enjoy

You wont want their advertised new toy

With that feeling inside you’ll transcend

Their sought after superficial end

2005046

My Predicament

In truth I find I am a freak

But not the type the sideshows seek

I am of a quite different kind

My difference is in the mind

It’s not a question good or bad

Though at times it does seem quite sad

Do not worry and do not cry

I will survive I will get by

Someday the whole wide world will tout

The things that I have figured out

2005047

The Joy Of Love

I find life’s greatest joy is in my brain

It’s thinking of you again and again

Of all things on earth and heaven above

Only our human brains can know pure love

No matter what else we feel taste or see

Only love goes on for eternity

Fifty Years Later

The question asked is where was it made

This marriage of Molly and Don Slade

Was it Boston a big city thing

Or was it Malden a small town fling

How much did politics enter in

Republican Democrat who’d win

Sometimes different backgrounds produce stress

And turn married life into a mess

But through it all their marriage has sailed

Molly and Don’s true love has prevailed

2005049

It Only Seemed Bad

It only seemed that way to you

Actually it wasn’t heartless

It was a very kind thing to do

Just to please can mean you care less

Those times when people are deprived

Those are the times that aren’t forgot

Especially by those who survived

Because of what they have been taught

2005050

Lasting Enjoyment

Those physical thrills we enjoyed

We later find we are devoid

They’re passing thrills we’ve left behind

But mental thrills stay in our mind

They’re often put there when we read

Or think of a way to succeed

Since they’re always there to recall

It makes those thrills the best of all

2005051

A Human Perspective

When I saw it with awe and majesty

Its quite obvious flaws I did not see

How many times in life does this occur

When we are enamored with him or her

Of course the inverse conditions are true

Anger can stop their good from showing through

Our emotions have an important place

But when dominant they degrade our race

On the other hand our intelligence

Brings to us love and faith and common sense

And they give us our human perspective

Which brings us a life that is substantive

My Efforts

Even though they’re offered to all

I know my efforts do seem small

But you’ve so many things to do

Could I not do a few for you

If I can not help with some task

And its really too much to ask

Just say the word and I’ll be gone

And our friendship will still go on

2005053

Not Just Talk

Though basic thoughts are very few

You’ll find they stick to you like glue

You’ll then figure everything out

And when you’re done you have no doubt

You’ve built your thoughts upon a rock

So what you say is not just talk

2005054

Ed Noke

Paul called and said Ed Noke was dead

I heard the words but shook my head

It’s a shock when any life ends

Especially when it’s a friend's

Brenda the family how are they

Then in my heart I start to pray

I pray for him I pray for them

It is my basic stratagem

Ed was a good man through and through

Inclined to help not to argue

And Ed would never put you on

Ed Noke you could depend upon

2005055

The Important One

Of all the things that you can do

To help your children’s dreams come true

The important ones are quite few

Number one’s saying I love you

That’s the seed you want them to know

With that thought a great life can grow

2005056

Our Important Construct

The constructs which man does employ

Meant to be helpful can destroy

The most destructive one derived

Is also why we have survived

We could not learn to fly like birds

But they could never construct words

One of the most powerful tools

For use by intellects and fools

And both perspectives get respect

For both require intellect

2005057

We Can Think

Please tell me from whence it all came

All your glory and all your shame

Was it from something that you did

Such as the time you flipped your lid

Today we are not taught make do

Today we are taught buy it new

What seem to be things desired

Often are not when acquired

Experience isn’t our best tool

For learning in life or in school

Remember it is not a crime

To stop and think from time to time

2005058

Questions For The Dead

The questions asked when your life ends

Are not about you but your friends

How many laughed how many cried

Are two questions asked when you’ve died

Where you a friend loyal and true

Just what did your friends think of you

Where you a friend of whom they would boast

Which did the friendship help the most

The answers that you give will tell

If you go to Heaven or Hell

2005059

Lucky Me

The thing I claim that sets me free

Is my immense stupidity

When you out smart me none will shout

To out dumb me is difficult

You have more ups you have more downs

I have more laughter and few frowns

Our difference is like night and day

I only hope it stays that way

Denial

Use of responsibility

Helps us achieve civility

This human trait has its effect

Because it requires intellect

In life we often do acquire

Some of the things we do desire

Beyond our needs we all do know

We can suppress desire with no

This very human decision

Is a really important one

Saying no to one’s self is taught

We all suffer when it is not

Without it selfishness and greed

Is what our intellect will heed

Strange that by learning to deprive

Keeps our wonderful world alive

2005061

Try Then Quit

When you take action to show them some class

And they think you’re just a pain in the ass

Don’t take any offence just move along

Trying is trying it’s not right or wrong

Later they might remember your actions

Which is the best of all satisfactions

2005062

Facing God

What I look forward to when I die

Is saying looking God in the eye

To you God I never would lie

For perfection I never did try

I did try and I hope that’s what counts

I did lie but not in large amounts

Anger and hate I did minimize

I always wanted truth and not lies

I knew that right was the thing to do

I hope I did not disappoint you

2005063

Fortieth Anniversary

Forty years ago they did say

That love and faith will be our way

These they practiced successfully

Thus their children all did see

How to be a dad and mother

How to care for one another

Forty years have their ups and downs

But in a home where love abounds

Joy and laughter exceed the tears

Producing forty super years

Happy Anniversary Dot And Marty

It’s fifty years of wedded bliss

Since Marty changed Dot from a Miss

These fifty years they both worked hard

As crossing and National Guard

As Mom and Pop grandma and gramp

All have enjoyed their summer camp

From them we learned to love and share

Like the bride and groom Teddy Bear

2005065

Learn A Basic Tool

I want all the world to know and see

The helical motion’s real beauty

Our earth’s we cannot see with our eyes

Instead we must conceptualize

It’s a technique that requires thought

Three D models of course help a lot

For both extremes micro and macro

The helical’s the tool all should know

It is one of nature’s basic tools

And should be taught to all in our schools

2005066

Aftermath

So many there are one could despair

But so many more just wish to share

We’ve a basic need in times of stress

The possibility of success

Which is the definition of hope

Hope allows human beings to cope

For without hope there is just despair

Which we defeat when we love and share

Dispensing with self-pity and lies

It’s up by our bootstraps we will rise

It is just neighbor helping neighbor

With spirit material labor

Trying to help not looking for pay

For that is our American Way

2005067

Telling The Experts

Since they don’t see the things I see

It’s difficult to deal with me

Though they will let me have my say

My thoughts to them I can’t convey

Since they aren’t really listening

For new ideas my thoughts might bring

There’s nothing new I could turn up

Because they have their minds made up

The experts only condescend

They never listen like a friend

Look

When strangers come they all complain

The names in Maine drive them insane

When they read the story behind

They get a joy that’s hard to find

They may not even buy the book

They simply pick it up and look

2005069

Helen’s Shoes

We called to tell the world the news

That Helen bought new wedding shoes

It’s not because she has strange feet

It was that they looked cool and neat

It only took twenty-three stores

And up and down thirty-two floors

The good news we’re happy to say

Is she doesn’t buy shoes every day

2005070

Grand Children

It never matters girl or boy

A grandchild is our greatest joy

It’s more than what they do or say

They each just have a special way

Of making our life quite grand

Not everyone can understand

This joy of life is never known

Unless you have some of your own

2005071

What You Say

Please give thought to the words you say

For I may turn and walk away

Not physically but mentally

In time you’ll find we both are free

It is the kind of thing I do

To everyone it’s not just you

2005072

Chef Jacques

Good turkey dinner was my quest

When I ate Jack’s I’d found the best

Meat vegetables and gravy too

Each had a taste of something new

We all say thank you thank you Jack

And when am I invited back

Our Progress

With man there’s always been want and need

Generosity kindness and greed

Some are good some bad some wise some fools

We’re the same today with different tools

For the most part that is all that’s changed

Except that now we are more estranged

2005074

A Physics Notion

A most fundamental physics notion

Matter energy’s difference is motion

And even there looking closely you’ll see

They both have motion it’s only degree

2005075

Casting A Stone

The thing that we cannot condone

Is the casting of the first stone

The reason we have to decline

Is where do we draw the next line

The casting is a reaction

To a need for satisfaction

Which thus expressed brings misery

To others as well as to thee

Casting the stone you will decry

If love and faith instead you try

A Common Mystery

I’ve found a common mystery

How stupid can a person be

I’ll give you one important clue

Their intellect might well fool you

2005077

Life Style

When you live right you will live long

And life is a beautiful song

Knowing it’s the important thing

Doing right is an easy thing

Though it makes someone sad or mad

To do what’s right is never bad

By always acting as you should

In the end things will turn out good

My Diner Wish

The diner meal for which I wish

Has more than vegetables and fish

There is some salad and desert

And ladies with whom I can flirt

Looking Back

I know each did for me what they could

That it was not more I understood

There is always more than one approach

And those who try are without reproach

When we do look back over the years

Gone is all the laughter tears and fears

Those memories which our life defined

They’re all located there in our mind

Gwen’s Good News

We know not where we know not when

But all are glad that Bob met Gwen

We know that they will meet again

On February Twenty Fifth

When they will exchange vows forthwith

Proving love and marriage no myth

After the wedding and the kiss

My friend Gwen no longer a miss

Will embark on a life of bliss

Give Her A Break

Life’s better when the pain is slight

And she sleeps better through the night

So send her back to bed to sleep

And not her normal schedule keep

For her today that would be best

Let’s help her get some extra rest

What do I do if I get caught

Whether we’re doing good or bad

It is a thought we all have had

The Lawyer’s Job

Lawyers don’t work toward what is true

They look for ways to misconstrue

They only have to create doubt

To see their client is let out

Have We Progressed

When we crossed from words and story

Into pictures and their glory

Was it all gain was there no loss

Did imagery become the boss

Like the easy way in a race

In time for some that did take place

It’s done at nature’s instance

It’s that path of least resistance

Because it does not make us strong

Quite often you will find it’s wrong

Though we got those stories faster

And we’ve seen every disaster

In data our minds are sinking

Our just knowing is not thinking

Christmas Day

We rise up early Christmas morn

To celebrate that Christ was born

Along with cards and presents sent

Went our true love and good intent

It isn’t only Christmas Day

These joyous feelings we convey

They’re done to all through out the year

But today we shout loud and clear

That all should know we want no doubt

That love is what life’s all about

2005999

How very sad it made me feel

This attitude you did reveal

Since I believe it is not right

I hope you keep it out of sight

When true love and faith in your heart reside

Then a feeling of pride is justified

The best I can do

To help you get through

Is teach you that right

Makes life a delight

I know that winter has to end

And bring us springtime’s warming trend

Implying much

But

Signifying nothing

Before you bite always confirm

It is a sausage not a worm

We often minimize sorrow

By giving thought to tomorrow

How many times have we done it

Played the game and never won it

Most people are afraid to show

Just how little they really know

They make noises and run around

To make sure fun and games abound

Someday the whole wide world will know

That my discovery is so

When searching for someone to entertain

Does it matter if he’s slightly insane

I love her even though I know

She is a crazy so and so

Those negative thoughts we retain

Will only bring to us more pain

It’s tell tale signs we come to know

That tell us when to come and go

Although there’s sadness and dismay

From severed ties I’ll walk away

My question with those signals sent

Is am I an embarrassment

Of the things that people do

The unkind ones are quite few

If Sunday comes and I am around

It’s eating Mike’s turkey I’ll be found

Within ignorance a joy is found

But discovery’s joy is profound

When they are listening to their I-Pod

Might they be hearing the word of God

My Two Great Gifts From Ignorance

Each one of us has had the first one

Being born a daughter or a son

The other one is unique to me

Done for me during a surgery

That cancerous bladder had to go

The standard fix I had come to know

After I had been under the knife

I’d change a bag the rest of my life

A stoma is the thing they install

Over seventy it’s done to all

Dr Zinman was always on track

The use of brains he never did lack

Once inside me this is what he found

For my age all my muscles were sound

He thought about it and changed the plan

Installing a bladder then began

A neo-bladder had to be made

My intestines were part of the trade

He cut the pieces and sewed as need be

External bags were necessary

But within months of those I’d be free

My life would return to normalcy

This I know beyond all I can state

Zinman the man I appreciate

My Friend Morry

Morry my good friend had just died

I shed no tears I cried inside

To me it was a special loss

Cause Morry always called me boss

We shared an important aspect

Each for the other had respect

Each always knew the other cared

What each one was the other shared

Each to the other’s life brought fun

In truth I was the lucky one

Though we spent many years apart

Each never left the other’s heart

He was so good my thanks I pray

I know with God we’ll meet someday

Polite Action

Never use your fingers or toes

To clean your ears or pick your nose

A very neat tool does exist

It is neither your fist nor wrist

Your own elbow is the right thing

Even when you’re before a King

Your Wedding

Mindy and Brian should understand

Their wedding was more than great and grand

Its natural splendor shouted out loud

Her grandfather Ed would be so proud

As were all of those who did attend

Be they a relative or a friend

The place gave a spectacular view

As did that dance by the two of you

All who came were so pleased to be there

To see the love the two of you share

In marriage love is a basic need

That is why all know yours will succeed

She works but not one job she has two

At Forty-Four what she wants to learn

To make both ends of the candle burn

At Forty-Four Suzanne does love art

I’m not sure when this talent did start

At Forty-Four she’s not traveled much

Just Spain Italy China and such

At Forty-Four the thing that is true

Your age doesn’t matter we all love you

At Forty-Four what does Suzanne lack

Nothing since she has Cooper and Jack

Twenty-five years as man and wife

Twenty-five years of laughter’n’tears

Twenty-five years with two careers

Twenty-five years living here’n’there

Twenty-five years of loving care

Twenty-five years with one real quest

It’s where they both have done their best

And all of us quickly agree

It’s how they raised their family

With love and faith as the requisite

Hannah and Isaiah are it

Of course in them they have real pride

That’s true success for a groom’n’bride

Dr. Zinman Doing right

Inside I’ll feel that more is due

But all I’ll do is say Thank You

With nothing else to do or say

I will then turn and walk away

He has my appreciation

Of his fantastic decision

Beyond responsibility

In to gross generosity

He took a risk without request

He did what’s Right that’s Zinman’s best

It’s never money never fame

What’s Right is man’s ultimate claim

Dr. Zinman wouldn’t compromise

Dr. Zinman is far to wise

Man Is Learning

Man’s learned to develop his might

Man’s learned to conquer all insight

Man’s learned why we have day and night

Man’s learned why the sun is so bright

Man’s learned to do good which isn’t trite

But man has one eternal plight

Can man learn to do what’s right

Doing right has a subtlety

Which transcends immediacy

Of course good thinking is the key

Required of both you and me

2006009

Path Picking

Man sees more when he looks above

And even more when done with love

Other approaches have been tried

Looking behind beneath beside

Little is gained and much is lost

The bridge of success is not crossed

But the path with love when taken

Will also serve a Saracen

For on any arduous trail

True love and faith always prevail

2006010

Mathematics And Constructs

Mathematical definitions are all true

What they define might not always be a truth

They might just be a construct conceived by man

It may have nothing to do with Nature’s plan

We all use constructions everyday

Some are for work and some are for play

What To Do

Oh God Oh God I wish I knew

Of something useful I could do

I think and think hard as I might

What e’er I do leads to a fight

A fight is not a solution

‘Cause losers want retribution

Intelligent conversation

Can never trump their emotion

I still come back to what to do

The answer is to love them too

My Funny Way

While I avoid all acts of shame

I also run away from fame

I do acts that aren’t understood

Some things I do are done for good

There are no acts I justify

I thank the few that know me well

And all the rest can go to Hell

Things We Don’t See

The easier a bird is to see

The more likely the bird is a he

It’s so he’ll catch the attackers eye

Thus the less important one might die

The birds have no choice they must obey

And let Mother Nature have her way

But with his brain man can think and change

Nature’s world and make it strange

A thing that man has misunderstood

All well intended changes aren’t good

Odd Thoughts Odd Time

Audacity and paucity

With something called proclivity

It’s one of my four A.M. scenes

And I’m not sure what each word means

So I’ll do nothing more tonight

Tomorrow I’ll see if I’m right

The next day’s answers which we’ll heed

Tell us the approach that we need

Paucity of audacity

But we’re stuck with proclivity

Youths suffer from audacity

And a great lack of paucity

Those lovely days spent at the beach

Where beauty’s a plentiful thing

With sights that summertime can bring

Or birds in flight that catch your eye

Warmth from the sun a summer breeze

People doing just as they please

Whether young or old matters not

You’ll find the pleasure you sought

September 29, 1956

Helen and I married on that date

And each was happy with their mate

For two years we thought life was fun

Then Helen had Paul our first son

And our lives became really great

But families like to integrate

So Washington we left behind

The Somerville flat we didn’t mind

When she again became pregnant

The Winchester move was pleasant

She gave birth to another boy

Christopher brought us all more joy

Then Suzanne two years later came

And There Is Nothing Like A Dame

Drakes Island was a lucky find

Moving to Harvard we didn’t mind

I bought into water treatment

And Helen was on antiques bent

The 1810 House our next home

Was in Groton our first home

The second was on Hollis Street

And life there seemed settled and neat

Eighty-five and eighty-seven

Started us on the road to Heaven

Janet and Christopher married

Then Suzanne and Jack married

Nineteen-ninety Christopher’s born

Ninety-one Cooper ‘n’ Jillian

Of these grandchildren we will shout

They’re what 50 years is about

2006020

A Perspective Of Janet

Janet always works so hard for others

As if they’re her own sisters and brothers

Though Janet suffered for weeks with great pain

She didn’t just continually complain

While trying to resolve it she’d still work

Responsibility’s she’d never shirk

To care for herself she gives little thought

What she does for Janet adds up to naught

Janet what we all wish that you would find

Are ways to yourself to be nice and kind

All Change Is Not Progress

Though for labor we celebrate this day

I remember it in another way

We went back to school after Labor Day

Many towns have taken that joy away

All schools closed by the twenty-fifth of June

Vacation before that would be too soon

And to what avail this misdirection

Just what is the school’s justification

Will this improve how our children are taught

Is it action taken without real thought

Since simple mathematics they can’t compute

The use of computers their brains refute

Responsibilities schools have assumed

Helped assure the new system would be doomed

Cease using tactics proposed by Dewey

Instead instill responsibility

That old system used sixty years ago

Taught us the things we were supposed to know

Lets change the plan and just reinstate

That old teaching system that made us great

Unseen Fruits

You do not see it as a tree

So its hanging fruits you don’t see

When off the tree some fruit does fall

It’s rare that you see it at all

Most lies there rotting in decay

But you will do better someday

When you’re older you’ll understand

You’ll see this tree as some thing grand

You’ll gather all that you can glean

From this father you’ve finally seen

Sights In The Night

When the night’s dark and all is still

It’s time to find some one to kill

With these requirements of scene

One cannot do it Halloween

In one way it’s the perfect night

For you can make them die of fright

Though it is a difficult quest

All you can do is try your best

But I myself will go to bed

For scary scenes are what I dread

Who Is He

Although a man of great renowned

His feet were planted on the ground

He was not easily mislead

Because he always used his head

With all the many stories told

They showed he had a heart of gold

Because he was easy to please

With him one always felt at ease

Since all these facts I’ve said are true

I know his name is known to you

Tell me the things I’m liable to do

That are liable to being upset to you

Tell me the things I’m liable to say

That are liable to bring you some dismay

And though I am dumb I am not a fool

So I try never to break any rule

I follow the rules wherever I stay

Rather than break them I just go away

Our differences of sight and sound abound

Tell me something I do not know

Tell me what made my cancer grow

My prostrate back in ninety-six

My bladder in two-thousand-six

It seems strange when I think of it

But cannot find the cause of it

I do thank God they did not spread

For if they did I would be dead

Though I don’t know the how and why

I do know why I did not die

Two discoveries then real quick

Two operations did the trick

I still don’t know what made them start

Or what’s the plan and what’s my part

From boring things my brain does run

So not knowing makes my life fun

Intelligent Discussion

To discuss things without good data

Is just another form of chatter

While one rarely knows every detail

Doesn’t mean their argument will fail

Data is a necessary need

But to principles we have to heed

Otherwise our argument’s for naught

No mater how much data we’ve got

An argument’s principles are prime

Principles must apply all the time

What applies today must tomorrow

Or we’ve intellectual sorrow

Usually both sides will concur

Those times one supercedes another

For an intelligent discussion

Principles’n’data not emotion
