Anemone cylindrica in the Peacock Prairie at the James Woodworth Prairie Preserve
THIMBLEWEED CANDLE ANEMONE (Buttercup Family)
Lower stem leaves in a whorl of 5-9, with 3 leaves larger than the others. Large
white or greenish flowers, 3/4” wide, on long stalks. The flowers are solitary
or few, with 4-7 petal-like sepals and numerous stamens. Fruit a cylindrical
head, 3/4 - 1 1/2” long. 1’ - 3’ high (30 - 91 cm). At the Peacock/Woodworth Prairie
blooms about the 1st week of June through the 2nd week of July.
