A MESSAGE FROM BILL BLAIR
Dear Workers in Christ,

Charge conferences are done. It was a delight to meet with most of the churches. There were some
individuals who were less than kind. But I do believe most of them meant well; they remind me of a book I
once read, “Well Intentioned Dragons.” They mean well, but just have a mean way of putting it! We have
to be patient with these kinds and allow God to sort it out in the judgment, but we cannot give them all our
time. We need to think and act on the higher things. I personally love the openness and faith of children.
Again, I want our churches to be known as churches with children.

Some have asked about the details of the children’s ministry that I talked about at many of the charge
conferences. Here are the details in written format:

-We began with a big presence in the local parade and handed out brochures and water bottles.

-When the kids registered for Bible School we registered them with emails and then emailed the families
each week about the after school program. The emails also included names and contact information for
volunteers who would pick up their kids at school. (I’ve already heard that one church has a bus company
that is going to haul the kids to the church after school lets out)

- The kids arrived between 3:05 and 3:45. Upon arriving, they had a snack/drink and played or did
homework.

-3:45 kids were assembled and did music.

-4:00 Kids were divided in four equal size groups according to age (K-5th) and rotated between these
groups: Bible lesson, Memorization in rote and song, Craft of cards for local care homes, Play time.

-5:00 kids sat down at a table of 5kids and 1 adult for a meal.

One Wednesday each month was guest night during the meal. The kids would sing their song and then sit
with their guest(s) and someone from our church. The guests rotated each month as
parents/grandparents/teacher.

We only ran this if school was open. It cancelled on snow days and was off over summer.

Let the little children come,

Bill

Pastors,

Last week we talked about Christmas on Sunday. Eric Raygor sent a neat idea about the
last time it happened on Sunday: They announced a couple weeks in advance for kids to
bring their toys for the children’s message which was a “blessing of the toys.” This gave
me an idea. I’m inviting all of you to email us your best practices for Christmas Sunday
and then we will put it in the e-news for all of you to see and borrow unashamedly! God
bless

Friends,

I just discovered a great (and free) Bible app called LifeChurch.tv. It will also come up by typing youversion
bible in the search box. It has many versions of the bible, reading plans by book/topic or even for youth,
and even has an audio so you can hear the bible in your favorite version while you are working or driving.
Download it and share it with your congregations and youth groups.

Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On November 5, 2011, from 4PM – 7 PM, The Community United Methodist Church will host a Benefit
Dinner for Pastor Daniel Brant. Pastor Brant was diagnosed with Stage 4 Mantle Cell Lymphoma, which is a
rare form of blood cancer. He has been receiving Chemotherapy Treatment for the past 5 months. His final
treatment is in October. Once these treatments are completed, Pastor Dan will have to undergo a Bone
Marrow Transplant. His insurance will not cover the total cost of the transplant, so we are hopeful that
many will come to support our effort. We are asking for your prayers along with your support, come and
enjoy a meal, or if you wish to make a donation, all will be greatly appreciated.

DISTRICT YOUTH NEWS
Hello District Youth,

We had an amazing time at our first Fall into Fun event hosted by Grace UMC of
Somerset. Thank you Grace for you very warm hospitality, and wonderful spaghetti dinner.

Throughout the evening we sang, praised God, played games, and even learned how to
sign the choruses of a couple of songs. We agreed to meet again in early February at
Seven Springs for a tubing event. Information on that event will be coming in the next few
weeks.

We also agreed to meet again in March at Paradise for another time of fellowship and
praising God.

Attached you will see some pictures from yesterday’s fun, and we hope many more of you
will join us in the future.

UPCOMING DATES to KEEP in MIND with your youth groups.

      1. It is not too late to sign up for SPARK. SPARK will occur the weekend of January
6, 7, and 8 at the Sheraton on the Southside. Justin Luckadoo will be the featured
speaker. I hope to see many of you there.

     2. I know Annual Conference is 8 or 9 months away, but the Conference is always
looking for young people to work as pages during the conference. Application deadline for
pages is usually around April 1st. Please check the conference website for applications.
To be a page at conference does not cost anything and includes room and board, as well
as a pizza party with the Bishop.

3, We are looking for young people who would be interested in being a part of the
Youth Ministry Team, who plans conference youth events such as SPARK, and at Annual
Conference participates in the decision making for the conference. If you or one of your
youth would be interested in this let me know and I will contact Renee Hoffman the
Conference Youth Coordinator for details.
God bless all of you,

Pastor J. Tim Hoover
District Youth Coordinator
UMC of Mt. Pleasant.

CONFERENCE NEWS
Greetings, Western Pa Districts of The UMC;

I want to introduce myself as your new Director of Discipleship and Christian Spiritual Formation for
Western Pennsylvania churches! I come to this important ministry excited about hearing the stories
of your churches and how they are making new disciples for Jesus Christ, encouraged to offer help
in each local church setting with ideas, resources and supportive words of encouragement, and
willingness to go wherever there is a need. As Deacon of the UMC, and serving throughout East
Ohio, I have encouraged churches where many are gathered or two or three are gathered in
support of age level ministries, small group ministries as well as ministries that will welcome new
faces to the Body of Christ. I am also available to nurture congregations in exciting new ways to
deepen the spiritual well so that we might be open to listening and leading from the very center of
whose we are in Jesus Christ! This I have done in Spiritual Discernment Circles, times of Centering
Prayer with leadership and pastors, and small groups within the local church.

Please let me know of any of your churches that might benefit from my contacting them directly with
pastor contact. And feel free to forward this greeting to your District Pastors and Leadership
Teams!

I am excited to be here. I am hopeful for God's call in our work and pray for your District and
congregations as we make and mature new disciples. In the days ahead, I will be stopping by each
District Office so that I might begin to put faces to names and establish relationships with persons
who make up Western Pa of The UMC!

Thank you for your prayers for this new ministry.

Please do email back that you have received this so that I might know my data base is accurate.
Thank you!

Serving in God's grace!

This is an event for young adults (ages 18-26) who feel God’s call to ordained ministry as a deacon
or elder in The UMC; and will take place Nov. 11-13 in St. Louis, Mo. The cost of registering for
Exploration 2011 is a whole lot less than the cost of traveling across the country to visit each of the
13 UMC seminaries, and yet you’ll have the benefit of meeting them all there in St. Louis. You’ll
also be able to explore how and to what God is calling you through worship, small groups,
workshops, and fellowship. Updates and registration information will be posted on the event Web
site at www.gbhem.org/exploration.
