Day 6: Fox Glacier - Franz Josef - Hokitika - Greymouth

Day 1: Christchurch – Mt. Hutt (Approximate driving time 2h, 120 km)
On arrival in Christchurch Meet & Greet by REST NEW ZEALAND TOURS (New Zealand's leading 4x4-Safari operator).
Pick up your rental car and drive through the Canterbury Plains to the foothills of the Southern Alps. You stay overnight on a
small lifestyle farm.

Day 2: Mt. Hutt –Tekapo – Kurow (Approximate driving time 6h, 260 km)
As you travel further south you reach the turquoise coloured Lake Tekapo. Take a scenic flight from Tekapo Airfield to Mt.
Cook, New Zealand’s highest mountain, and its surrounding glaciers. Follow our instructions and drive into a remote valley,
covered by scarce vegetation and tussock grass. Climb across a long forgotten and rarely used mountain pass and stay
overnight in a historic hotel.

Day 3: Kurow – Cromwell – Queenstown (Approximate driving time 5h, 250 km)
During the New Zealand gold rush this area was one of the most populated in the country. Flourishing towns were built
virtually overnight and attracted immigrants from all over the world. The gold has gone and so have the people but as you
drive through this historic region you will meet reminders of the glorious past wherever you go. From Naseby you drive to
Cromwell via a remote track until you reach the Wakatipu basin. The views are spectacular! Travel along the shores of Lake
Wakatipu until you finally arrive in Queenstown, the Adventure Capital of New Zealand.

Day 4: Queenstown
Today you have time to enjoy what Queenstown has to offer. Jetboating, River Rafting, Bungy Jumping and many other
activities are available. Another option would be a day trip with the bus or in your car to the famous Milford Sound or
alternatively a sightseeing flight to the fiords by plane.
Day 5: Queenstown –Wanaka – Fox Glacier (Approximate driving time 6h, 350 km)
After crossing the Crown Range, New Zealand's highest official pass, past the popular Cardrona skiing area you arrive in
Wanaka, an ideal place for a stopover before you continue your journey. You head west and cross the Southern Alps again.
The Haast Pass is a scenic drive and with many opportunities to stop and explore. We recommend a walk to Munro Beach
from Lake Moeraki where you might be lucky to see some penguins (seasonal) or you could take a walk around Lake
Matheson. Overnight in Fox Glacier or Franz Josef

Day 6: Fox Glacier – Franz Josef – Hokitika/Greymouth (Approximate driving time 2.5h, 190 km)
You will be impressed by the breathtaking beauty of the West Coast. This is the wildest part of the country and the
combination of high mountains, glaciers, rainforest and the pounding sea is unique in the world. The well marked highlights
along the coast are worth stopping for. A hike up to Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers is another recommended activity.
Helicopter sightseeing flights over the glaciers are offered from the two ground stations. North of Franz Josef you can go by
Jetboat into the Okarito Lagoon where White Herons (season Nov - Feb) have their nesting places, a must for wildlife fans.

Day 7: Hokitika/Greymouth – Arthur’s Pass – Christchurch (Approximate driving time 4.5h, 260 km)
Depending on your flight departure you have the choice of either travelling further north to visit Punakaiki Pancake Rocks or
driving via Lake Brunner to Arthur's Pass. This is your last crossing of the Alps and the road follows the famous Tranzalpine
rail track to Christchurch where your tour ends. Vehicle drop off at the airport.

A fee of NZ$ 22 per day incl. GST will bring the excess for the rental car down to nil. It will also waive the airport/ferry pick
up fee. The all inclusive package is only available if pre booked through Rest NZ Tours.

If the client chooses the excess reduction insurance after arrival in NZ the normal car insurance conditions apply. Standard
Vehicle Supplier, Budget Rent A Car. Insurance - Budget Protection Plan (BPP): Excess Reduction Fee NZ$ 28 plus GST
per day reduces excess to NZ$ 225 plus GST.
