CAN continues to assist with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita recovery in Mississippi and
Louisiana. Here are some of the updates and activities from our two CAN Liaison's in
Providence Health Mississippi and Louisiana:
CAN Liaison's are updating our contact information for all Long Term Recovery
Community Assisting Groups and Partner Agency CAN Points-of-Contacts (POC) in MS and LA. Has
Recovery Inc. something changed with your Long Term Recovery (LTR) group or CAN POC?
We will be contacting your agency in an effort to offer support and to update

CAN continues to host a joint conference call for six Mississippi and Louisiana
United Way Muscatine Red Cross Chapters that are involved in the Hurricane Recovery Program Case
Mississippi CAN Liaison, Sonyia Kidd, is actively reaching out to the CAN Partner
Council on Aging,

MS Training for Mississippi Case Management Consortium (MCMC) - Sonyia
coordinated a conference call in early March with MCMC staff to review
For Mississippi: recommendations to CAN on the suite of tools for their program.
Sonyia attended several meetings and special events throughout MS including:
Interfaith Disaster Task the Katrina Summit, Rebuilding Pearl River County Together LTR meeting,
Force MCMC Affiliates Case Manager Supervisor's meeting, and the Annual MSVOAD
Mississippi Louisiana Activities:
For Texas: Kim Katner, our Louisiana CAN Liaison, continues to support the requests and
training needs of over 55 local Louisiana Partner Agencies and numerous
NAACP Texas national organizations that are still at work supporting the case management
efforts of sixteen active Long Term Recovery Organizations and committees in
Greater St. Paul's Southern Louisiana.
Matthew Gans Kim has recently attended Long Term Recovery meetings throughout the state
Resurrection Center including: St. Bernard Parish (S.B.C.R.), Calcasieu Parish (C.L.T.R.G.), Orleans
Parish (C.A.R.E. UW-I & G.N.O.D.R.P.), Jefferson Parish (J.D.R.C. UW-I),
For Washington: Plaquemines Parish (C.P.R.), St. Bernard Parish (S.B.C.R. UW-I), Terrebonne
Parish & Lafourche Parishes (B.A.R.R.), as well as the "Florida" Parishes
Associated Ministries (N.D.R.I. & B.R.A.C.E.S.).
