Graphic Design

Course Description
This 2 year course gives students the training in the skills required to pursue
a career in the design industry. The course will develop student’s abilities in
a range of pathways, including: typography, advertising, product packaging
design, editorial design, printmaking, photography and illustration. Students
will be taught how to develop and create ideas to industry standard briefs,
whilst building a diverse portfolio of work. Students will have the opportunity
to develop their knowledge of artists and designers, visiting relevant
exhibitions and galleries, both locally and abroad. In addition, students will
gain a qualification in Functional English and/or Maths.

Entry Requirements
Students will need to present a portfolio of previous work in an interview with
College staff and hold either a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design or at least
4 GCSE grades A*-C. A Level 1 pass in English is also required.

All units are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction. Students must pass each
unit to get the overall Diploma qualification at the end of the course. Students
are also required to undertake an examination in Functional English and/or Maths.

Qualifications                                                                                     Graphic Design
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Graphic Design
Functional Skills in English and/or Maths

After this course students can progress to a Level 4 qualification such as a
Higher National Diploma or Foundation Degree in Graphic Design, Textiles or
Fashion or they can go on to employment in creative industries.
