                               JOB DESCRIPTION


The Court’s Principal Registrar supports the judicial functioning of the Court,
through the provision of high-level legal and procedural advice within the Court.

The role of the Executive Assistant to the Principal Registrar is to:

           provide legal research assistance and strategic advice
           liaise with the Principal Registrar and the communication team on
            changes to court rules/forms and publications.
           develop and maintain positive, productive and collaborative
            relationships with the Federal Magistrates and their staff, sessional
            registrars, the legal profession and other external stakeholders
           investigate, resolve and/or provide advice to the Principal Registrar
            in relation to court practices and procedures
           assist with project work
           provide advice to the Principal Registrar on the Court’s evolving
            case management system and electronic filing future
           maintain and update material for new federal magistrates
           ensure the confidentiality and security of documentation held within
            the Principal Registrar’s office
           manage change in a challenging environment
           ensure the policies and standards of the Courts are promoted and
           supervise the Assistant to the Principal Registrar and generally
            manage the office
           participate in various working groups e.g. Divorce Issues Working
            Group, the Family Law Courts Efiling Working Group, and
           respond to queries from the Attorney-General’s Department and
            other agencies such as the Australian Human Rights Commission,
            Commonwealth Ombudsman etc in regards to complaints.

 The Executive Assistant reports to the Principal Registrar.
 Reporting to the Executive Assistant is the Assistant to the Principal Registrar.
1. Demonstrated experience in providing quality personal and administrative
   assistance and support to senior executives.
2. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive working
   relationships across the organisation through well developed personal
   skills, tact, and discretion; and the ability to communicate effectively with
   members of the judiciary, the legal profession, the public and other court
3. Sound organisation skills, including the ability to set and manage priorities,
   meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
4. Demonstrated ability to work well in a team, to act with integrity, use
   initiative and work unsupervised.
5. Knowledge or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of Federal Magistrates
   Court functions, organisation, practices procedures and terminology.
