Fabrics

1. Blue and beige Zodiac signs in squares F347 col.1 – 2 rows

2. Planets in blue sky F344 col.1 – 1/3 yd (40 cm)

3. Beige zodiac signs on teal blue ground F346 col.1 – 1/3 yd (40 cm)

4. Stars in blue sky F345 col.1 – 1/3 yd (40cm)

5. Rust from Perfect Palette H50 col.47 – long ¼

6. Pale blue from Perfect Palette H50 col.26 – 2/3yd (60cm)



Wadding and backing 40" x 40"

Cutting

From fabrics



1- 12 x 3¾" x 3¾" squares.



2- 2 x 5 ¼" x 5¼" squares, cut in half diagonally twice.

8 x 4⅞" x 4⅞" squares, cut in half diagonally once.

8 x 3⅜" x 3⅜" squares.



3- 13 x 5¼" x 5¼" squares, cut in half diagonally twice.



4- 10 x 5¼" x 5¼" squares, cut in half diagonally once.

1 x 4½" x 4½" squares.

2 x 4⅞" x 4⅞" squares, cut in half diagonally once.



5- 24 x ⅞" x 3¾" strips.

24 x ⅞" x 4½" strips.



6- 8 x 4½" x 4½" squares.

10 x 4⅞" x 4⅞" squares, cut in half diagonally once.

7 x 5¼" x 5 ¼" squares, cut in half diagonally twice.

8 x 3⅜" x 3⅜" squares.





Making up blocks

Fabrics used for block 1;

1, 3, 4, 5 and 6.



Fabrics used for block 2;

2, 3 and 6.



Fabrics used for block 3;

3, 4 and 6.



For block 1.



Lay out your pieces as shown in the diagram.

Take your 3¾" square of fabric 1, and add your ⅞" x 3½" strips of fabric 5 to top and

bottom, press back.

Next add your strips ⅞" x 4½" to the left and right hand side and press back.

Sew your small triangles of fabric together in pairs, pressing back as you go, and then sew

the triangles together to make a square. Press back.

Lay out all of your pieces and sew in rows, pressing as you go.Now sew the rows together

to form the block.

Make 4 of these blocks in total.



For block 2.



Lay out your pieces as shown in the diagram.

This block is made up from four large triangles.

Sew two small triangles together.

Next add a small triangle to the square, pressing as you go.

Now sew these two pieces together.

Add the larger triangles to each side and press.

Make all four triangles for the block in this way.

Sew the triangles together to complete the block.

Make four of these blocks in total.



For block 3.



Lay out your pieces as shown in the diagram.

Sew the small triangles together in pairs and then sew the pairs together to form squares,

pressing as you go.

Sew the larger triangles together in pairs to form squares.

Now sew your pieces in rows and then sew the rows together.



To complete the block

Lay out your blocks and sew in rows, pressing as you go.

Now sew the rows together to complete the top layer.

Sandwich together top layer, wadding and backing.

Quilt by hand or machine.

Use left over fabric to make binding and attach this to the quilt to complete.
