Teaching is like jogging

• I am a teacher. A teacher is someone who

leads. There is no magic here. I do not

walk on water. I do not part the sea. I just

love children.

Customs and Superstitions

101 American Superstitions ~ Harry Collis

If you sing before seven, you will cry before eleven.

• There is an old belief that the morning is too early to

be happy. Happiness has to be earned each day—

otherwise, you are sure to have bad luck.

• A: (singing) Oh, what a beautiful morning!

• B: Do you really want that new job?

• A: Of course I do.

• B: Then you’d better not act too happy, at least

before noon.

Customs and Superstitions

101 American Superstitions ~ Harry Collis

• Pulling out a gray hair will cause more to grow

• People have always thought that hair had

magical powers and there are many superstitions

about human hair. One belief is that pulling out

a single gray or white hair will cause ten more to

grow in its place.

• John got angry every time he looked in the

mirror and see a new gray hair. But he was

afraid to pull out even one because he believed

that if he did, he would grow even more gray.

• Something old, Something new,

Something borrowed, Something blue,

• When getting married, brides traditionally wear or carry

something old, something new, something borrowed,

and something blue.” Something old” can be anything

that has brought good luck to its owner in the past.

“Something new” is a symbol of hope for the

future. ”Something borrowed” adds the good luck of the

giver to traditional protection for all women.

• A: Anna, the ceremony is about to begin. Are you ready?

• B: Yes. I’m wearing my grandmother’s necklace (old)

and my beautiful wedding gown(new). Dad’s lucky

penny (borrowed) is tired into my bouquet with a

blue ribbon(blue). Everything is perfect.

• Taking the last piece of food

• There is a superstition that warns us

never to take the last piece of food on a

plate. To do so means that we won’t

marry, or if we are married, we may soon

find ourselves unmarried again.

• The family laughed at young Michael

because he ate so much. They said he

would still be unmarried at 40 because at

dinner he always took the last piece of

meat and drank the last glass of milk.

• Pulling a wish bone

• The forked bone that lies between

the neck and breast of a bird is

called the wish bone. When two

people pull the bone until it breaks,

the one holding the larger piece is

given a wish. For the wish to come

true, it must be kept secret.

• Placing shoes on a table

• Placing shoes on a table is a reminder of death by

hanging, since criminals were often hanged while still

wearing their shoes. Now placing shoes on a table is

believed to invite a family argument or even death.

• A: Are you trying to cause trouble?

• B: What did I do?

• A: You put your shoes on the kitchen table.

• Mother won’t like that.

• B: But the shoes are clean, and I don’t want to

• forget them tomorrow.

• A: I smell an argument coming on.

Stories…Diary of a Wimpy Kid

• September

In my class, I got stuck with Chris Hosey in

front of me and Lionel James in back of me.

Jason Brill came in late and almost sat to my

right, but luckily I stopped that from

happening at the last second. Next period, I

should just sit in the middle of a bunch of hot

girls as soon as I step in the room. But I guess

if I do that, it just proves I didn’t learn

anything form last year.

.

6. Where was the second ghost from?

7. What did the third ghost represent?

8. What had Mr. Scrooge changed after the

visit of the three ghosts?

9. What does a carol mean?

Easy poems

Go to Bed Late Always Say “Please”

• Go to bed late, • Always say “please,”

• Stay very small. • When you ask for some cake,

• Go to bed early. • Don’t forget “thank you!”

• Grow very tall. • When a piece you take.

We are the best!

Education is not the filling of the pails,

but the lighting of a fire.

The best way to learn is to learn from the best.

“Stressed” is “Desserts”.
