THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT CHICAGO College of Business Administration DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING Accounting: Business Law Fall 2004 Prerequisite: Advanced Standing Instructor: Associate Professor George Roe Office: 2315 University Hall, Telephone 996-3391 E-mail groe@uic.edu Office Hours: By Appointment Catalog Description: Fundamental rules of law applicable to business activity; contract and agency; the formation and nature of contractual obligations; sales of personal property; commercial paper under the Uniform Commercial Code. Textbook Required: BUSINESS LAW by Smith & Roberson, 12th Edition. Lectures are an integral part of the course; students are held responsible for the contents of the lectures as well as assigned readings in the textbook. Class assignments indicate the topic and chapter to be read prior to each class session. Course Requirements and Grading: Course grade will be based solely on the student's performance on exams. The exams are noncumulative and weighted according to their points. The taking of the exams is a course requirement. Actual exam dates will be announced in class when the dates are available. Letter Grades: A=Excellent, B=Above Average, C= Average, D= Poor but passing, F=Failure; W=withdrawal from course without penalty; IN=incomplete and will be assigned only under the conditions specified in the University catalog. Please refer to the "General Course Policy" statement of the Department of Accounting for additional information.
