Academic Institution Preferred Provider for IA, Cybersecurity

Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) members will have access
to all UMUC coursework and may be eligible for tuition discounts on select programs

ADELPHI, Md. (July 25, 2011) – University of Maryland University College (UMUC) announced today that it has
signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics
Association (AFCEA) Educational Foundation to offer AFCEA members the opportunity to earn post-secondary
university education, certificates and degrees from UMUC. UMUC President Susan C. Aldridge and AFCEA
President and CEO Kent Schneider signed the agreement at a special ceremony today at AFCEA headquarters in
Fairfax, Va. The agreement recognizes UMUC as the AFCEA Education Foundation’s Exclusive Academic
Institution Preferred Provider for information assurance and cybersecurity programs. The agreement runs through
April 30, 2014.

“UMUC’s academic programs and courses are perfectly aligned with AFCEA’s mission to promote world class
education and training that meets the diverse needs of its community members,” said Aldridge. “UMUC looks
forward to serving this new population of students, and hopes that AFCEA members worldwide will take advantage
of this opportunity to advance and grow their professional careers with a post-secondary degree or certificate.”

Under the agreement, AFCEA members may take individual courses or enroll in any of UMUC’s 120 UMUC
undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs. Students enrolling in UMUC’s School of
Undergraduate Studies may transfer credits and/or be awarded credit for prior learning if eligible under UMUC’s
standard policies and procedures. Additionally, UMUC will offer program participants a 25 percent discount on out-
of-state tuition rates for selected graduate and undergraduate programs. AFCEA members who are Maryland
residents and/or active-duty military and spouses pay UMUC’s regular rates for in-state and military students.
