Antique Autos in History Park, 2009
The 9th annual Antique Autos in History Park event that occurred on September 13 ex-
ceeded all expectations. With 182 antique vehicles, History Park again was transformed
into a showcase of historic vehicles of all kinds. Lining the streets of this beautiful park
were 180 antique autos from 1905 to 1945, two antique fire trucks and three antique
highwheel bikes. The Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association was well represented
by many varied exhibits. Our club participants with cars included the Anningers, Stubbles,
Boydens, and Wires, other members came for the day. Jack Kopp was also there and en-
joyed the day.
One of the highlights of the day was the assembly of a Model T again this year. The team
of 10 mechanics from the Santa Clara Model T Club (Jim Boyden was one of them) set out
to beat their time last year of 10 minutes. This year, the team performed much faster with a
time of 8 minutes and 6 seconds. You don't see that every day.
We had a great day, the weather was perfect. Just a little on the warm side but nothing to
complain about. Some people had set up displays of their old antique engines, compress-
ers, and a Maytag washing machine. There was a Blacksmith creating different items, a
craft area where a woman was making hand made lace, a man was tying flies for fly fish-
ing, there was quilt making, rug making, wood carving, also some water color painting.
The movie theatre ran an old Laurel and Hardy film. The San Jose Fire Department was
there with activities for the young kids to do.
Peggy Sue's Diner was there BBQ-ing hamburgers, hot dogs etc. O'Brien's old ice cream
shop had home made ice cream for sale by the scoop.
They had a raffle with some door prizes. A lot of people were dressed in period clothing
hoping for a prize for best dressed. All in all it was a great day.
