on one side. The afico glass fiber are non-combustible

materials when tested as per BS 476 ( Part 4), ASTM

E-84 and E- 136. The reinforced aluminum foil/ kraft

laminated facing ( FSK) are UL classified as Flame

Spread = 15 and smoke developed = 0. Standard length

size of blanket/ roll is 1200mmx10000mm with a

thickness of 40mm . Vapor permeability of 0.00279

perms.

8.1.1 Outdoor for Rectangular Duct Supply, Return and Fresh Air.

Afico fiberglass rigid board insulation and roll comply with ASTM

the K factor is 0.22 btu.in/sq.ft.hr.F (0.013 W/m.K ) at a mean

temperature of 77 F ( 25 deg. C). The jacketing is factory

applied glass reinforced flame retardant kraft laminated aluminum

foil on one side. Fire classification is non-combustible when tested

as per BS 476 (Part 4) , ASTM E-84 and E-136. The rigid board

insulation is sullied in standard size of 1200mm x 1000mm with

thickness of 50mm and vapor permeability of 0.00279 perms.

Glass reinforced aluminum foil /kraft laminated facing (FSK) are

UL classified of flame spread of 15 and smoke developed zero.

The ATCO # 50 series comply with specification as per material

submittal M-150 . The # 30 series insulated round duct with an outer

jacket enclosing 32mm thick and with R-valve of 4.2 for the inner

core. And a double layer core is wrapped in a thick blanket of

fiberglass insulation and sheathed in a rugged metalized polyester

jacket as per MAR # M-150. It complies with the pressure rating of 6

inches W.G. ( 1500 Pa ) positive and 0.5 inch W.G. (125 Pa )

negative pressure.

9. PREPARATION AND INSTALLATION

9.0 Insulate duct before installation on site for low pressure rating

9.1 Before insulation of duct to proceed, executed at site workshop,

check , and make sure that available shop drawing on hand is ,

approved.

9.2 Ensure insulation materials and accessories to use are correct and

comply to approved materials submittal by verifying the label and/or

markings by manufacturer.

9.3 Check with the duct installer on site the coordination clearance of

requirement as well as end connection assembly.

9.4 The duct (s) to insulate must have a minimum clearance of 50 mm.

from insulation to end connection to accommodate joining of duct (s)

at site.

9.5 After compliance of the above sequence of check , typical fixing of

insulation can proceed.

9.6 Ensure surface of duct is dry and free from dust or grease. Cut

insulation to required length to fit around the duct making sure that

edges are straight.

9.7 Apply insulation adhesive to duct surface in strip approximate 15 cm

wide. Underside of duct should be completely coated to prevent

sagging.

9.8 For installation of anchor pin and speed washer on side and bottom

of horizontal duct and sides of vertical duct should be follow specs

section 15081 / 3.4A3 & B3.

9.9 As per manufacturer’s recommendation- depending on size of duct

fit two or more rows of insulation fixing pins to each face of the duct

at center of 30 to 50 cm. pins are self adhesive type.

9.10 Carefully position insulation over the pins, pressing firmly so those

pin penetrate through the insulation. Fit lock washers over pins

pushing them down until tight against insulation. Snip off any excess

shank from pin. Seal all joints and opening with self adhesive tape.

9.11 For duct without pins application, wrap insulation , foil face up, to the

prepared duct surface once adhesive become tacky, making sure

that all edge joints are closely butted.

9.12 Apply uniform hand pressure to outside surface of insulation to

obtain good bond.

9.13 Sealing of joints and seams with vapor – retardant mastic of

insulated duct indicated to receive vapor retardant.

9.14 Apply insulation in a tight manner to longitudinal seams joints, with

a least number of joints, and bond seams and joints with adhesive.

9.15 Apply by brush the continuous thermal and vapor retardant mastic

( Foster 30-36) along the insulation without affecting the integrity of

applied insulation.

9.16 Place canvas cloth ( 8- oz. / sq. yd.) jacket smooth and tight to the

surface with 50 mm overlap at seams and joints.

9.17 Completely wrap insulation with jacket , leaving no expose raw

insulation . After setting to final surface , apply mastic by brush to

finish.

9.18 Keep insulated duct dry after application of coating.

9.19 All internal insulated duct shall have reinforcement foil face and

frame resistance kraft vapor barrier.

9.20 Extra care for the finished insulated during handling and

transporting to site.

9.21 Upon installation of ductwork on site , insulation between duct and

duct support using 100 mm width galvanized sheet metal

underneath to serve as protection.

9.22 Where insulated ductwork passes through fire rated partition /wall ,

and floor ,to provide a sleeve. The insulation terminates at the face

of the walls, filling the gap with fire stopping mineral wool and

finishes with fire resistant sealant.

9.23 All supply and return ductwork exposed to atmosphere should have

insulated and covered with aluminum cladding of 1-mil (0.25mm)

thick to serve as jacket .

9.24 After successful completion of installation and all joints are proved

for sound insulation the QA/QC Engineer will offer for inspection and

approval to the Main Contractor and the Company.

9.25 After completion of insulation work on site , the area involved should

be clean and clear of excess materials.
