1. Purpose



This method of statement covers the on-site installation of Busways as defined in the

General Specification.







2. Scope of Works



This procedure will define the method to be used to ensure that busways are correct

and acceptable and shall conform to the Contract Documents and Specification.



3. Responsible Personnel on Site



3.1. Construction Manager

3.2. Electrical Field Engineers

3.3. Safety Officer

3.4. QA/QC Engineer

3.5. Electrical Supervisors



4. Storage



4.1 Busway materials shall be stored in proper location. Ensure that they are packed and

stacked neatly.



5. Pre-Installation



5.1 All materials and documentation relevant to this particular section of works will be

checked and verified ensuring that these are correct and approved type.



5.2 Prior to the commencement of works, ensure that the areas for permanent installation

are ready, accessible and in suitable condition.



6. Installation



6.1 The busbar trunk system shall be supported throughout the entire length as per

manufacturer’s recommendation to withstand the mechanical load and abnormal forces

created under short-circuit conditions. Expansion fittings shall be provided at places,

where the busbar trunk crosses building expansion joints.



6.2 Install busway, accessories and associated fittings, as indicated on the drawings and in

accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Support and hanger spacing shall

be noted on layout drawings and shall not exceed manufacturer’s recommendations.



6.3 Provide curb around interior floor penetrations.

6.4 Install busway with integral weather seal located where busway penetrates exterior wall

and/or roof. Provide wall and/or roof flange and seal around opening to maintain

weather tight installation.

6.5 Tighten the joint bolts to the required torque in accordance with manufacturer’s

recommendation.



6.6 Cover the busway with plastic wrappers until the building is clean and busway are ready

to be tested and energized.



6.7 Megger the busway in the presence of the Consultant and re-torque the joint bolts as

recommended by the manufacturer.



6.8 The complete installation shall be tested and inspected to ensure that it complies with

the requirements of the Specification, the IEE Wiring Regulations, British Standards and

the Local Authorities. The tests shall be carried out in accordance with the IEE Wiring

Regulations and to the satisfaction of the Consultant.



6.9 The inspection and tests shall be carried out in the same sequence as set out in the IEE

Wiring Regulations, Local Authorities and the Consultant requirements and in such time

as to allow any remedial work to be completed prior to Practical Completion.



6.10 All instruments necessary for inspection and testing shall be supplied and shall be

properly calibrated and operated by personnel skilled in their use.



6.11 Allowance shall be made for disconnection or similar operations to satisfy the

requirements for testing, etc., and the reinstatement of the installation.



7. Reference Documents



7.1 Approved Electrical Shop Drawings

7.2 Approved Material Submittals

7.3 Approved Material Inspection Report

7.4 Approved Resistance Test Report

7.5 Approved Safety Plan

7.6 QA/QC Inspection & Test Plan



8. Safety



8.1 All safety precautions shall be followed as per approved safety plan & procedure.

Ensure all involved persons are aware of the same.



8.2 Safety Officer shall ensure that all ladders and scaffoldings are safe.



8.3 Ensure that tradesman will keep their working places clean and tidy.
