A message from the Dean of the Graduate College
The Graduate College at the University of Illinois at Chicago is dedicated to a simple
idea: bringing together superb students with outstanding research faculty in a diverse
and stimulating urban environment.
There has never been a more exciting time to pursue advanced study. New fields of
learning and new approaches in traditional fields are providing today’s graduate
students with ideas, skills, and disciplines to shape the world around them.
UIC's 6000 graduate students are enrolled in nearly fifty PhD programs and over
eighty masters programs, spanning the range of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Life
Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering. UIC has many advantages to offer:
nationally ranked programs, award-winning faculty, and the most diverse graduate
student body among the nation's leading research universities - all within the heart of
metropolitan Chicago. UIC may justly claim to be a model for the research universities
of the new century.
I invite you to make it your home.

The Application Process
1) This application is valid only for the term for which you are applying.
2) This is a self-managed application. Submit your Basic Admission Credentials (see page 2) in one envelope – application, application fee,
application checklist, and official sealed transcripts – to the Office of Graduate Admissions. All other required materials must be sent to
the department of interest (see pages 16-21). If you must submit transcripts or any other documentation separately, be sure to
include your name and address as it appears on your application, and your date of birth (and Social Security Number or UIN, if
possible) on each document.
3) All documents submitted to UIC become the property of the University. Documents will not be released to the applicant or forwarded to
other institutions or agencies.
4) Applicants to a UIC graduate program must meet both the requirements of the UIC Graduate College and the UIC academic
department offering the graduate program they seek. Academic departments will evaluate applications and send admissions
recommendations to the Graduate College.
5) Each academic department establishes its application deadline and the additional application materials the department must receive before
an application will be reviewed for admission. It is the responsibility of the applicant to be aware of additional application materials
and/or credentials required, as well as the application deadlines established by the department of interest. Deadlines and additional
admission requirements are listed by program on pages 14-21.
6) U.S. citizens or permanent residents who have attended universities outside of the U.S. should refer to pages 3 and 4 in this booklet for
additional instructions regarding their international academic credentials.
7) International applicants have earlier application deadlines than domestic applicants (excluding applicants to certificate programs) and have
additional instructions regarding their application process described in “Instructions for International Applicants” on page 3 and 4.
Special Note: We are requesting your Social Security Number (SSN) pursuant to Public Law 93-579 for the University’s system of student
records as well as for compliance with federal and state reporting requirements. A SSN is required if you are applying for financial aid but is not
required for admission to the University. The University is committed to ensuring the privacy and confidentiality of student records and will not
disclose your SSN without your consent for any purpose except as allowed by law.

Graduate College Application and Credentials Deadlines
Your application, application fee, academic credentials and any additional materials required by your program must be received by the deadline stated. Deadlines may change
without notice and many programs will close before the stated deadline because of the large volume of applications they receive. It is to your advantage to apply well before
the deadline. Applications and materials received after the deadlines will not be considered. International applicants have earlier deadlines than domestic applicants.
All applicants should use the General Graduate Deadlines listed below unless your intended program of study is listed under Graduate Programs with Earlier Deadlines.
