REGISTRATION AND TUITION PAYMENT INFORMATION

FOR GT EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

REGISTRATION

• Registration for Fall usually opens in April, Spring usually opens in November, and Summer

usually opens in late March. Please register as soon as your time ticket allows via your OSCAR

account.

Foreign Studies courses

• Participants in semester/summer exchange programs must register for Foreign Studies (FS) 4000

(undergraduates) or Foreign Studies (FS) 6000 (graduate students).

• These courses carry 12 hours (summer students will have a different section of the FS course with

a different number of credit hours depending on the program).

• You may not register for any other on-campus, study abroad, or online GT courses while

participating in a GT Semester/Summer Exchange Program.

• The Office of International Education (OIE) will request the appropriate permit for you from the

GT Registrar.

• If you try to register and you receive a “campus restriction” error please contact OIE. OIE will

contact the Registrar’s office for you to correct your campus permit (allowing you to register).

• You must register each semester that you are abroad. You will be able to register during

normal GT registration periods. Check the registration calendar at

http://www.registrar.gatech.edu/home/calendar.php, and then register online at

https://oscar.gatech.edu/.

International Plan (IP) registration

• In addition to the Foreign Studies (FS) course, all IP participants must also register for the IP

course for the term that they will be studying abroad.

Proof of registration while abroad: VEA

• As an exchange program participant, you MUST register for and transfer in 12 credit hours,

unless otherwise specified in writing from OIE.

• For each semester that you are enrolled at a partner institution, you must send proof of full-time

registration via the Verification of Enrollment Abroad (VEA) form.

• This means that once you arrive at the host institution and register for courses, you must send

this official documentation, which shows that you are enrolled in the equivalent of at least 12

GT semester hours.

• Signatures for the VEA form should be obtained from the overseas International Office, the

office that is responsible for registration, or from the office/person responsible for the exchange

with GT.

• This information must be sent within the first two weeks after classes begin abroad. The VEA

form should be faxed to OIE at 1-404-894-9682.

• Please be aware that failure to send in this form will result in your removal from the program.

This means that you will be removed from the Foreign Studies class and will loose all 12 credits

for which you are enrolled at GT. Furthermore, your transcript will be noted with an

“unsuccessful audit” for the term abroad.

Please note: Courses that are not transferable to Georgia Tech, such as sports or crafts classes, may not

count toward your 12 credit hours. If you would like to take these courses in addition to 12 hours of

transferable, academic credits, you are welcome to do so in your free time.

Registration for your first semester back at GT

• Through the Internet, you will be able to register during your assigned time tickets for GT

registration, just as if you were on campus, by using the OSCAR system.

TUITION PAYMENTS

• Payments for your tuition and fees for all exchange programs are paid directly to the GT Bursar,

unless you have been informed otherwise by your Study Abroad Advisor.

Billing

• The amount due will be your tuition for the semester abroad + campus fees + $150 to $200 for

insurance (approx.)

Receiving Financial Aid, Loans, HOPE, or other scholarships

• If you receive HOPE or other financial aid/loans=/scholarships, your money will be disbursed to

your GT Bursar account on the regular fin aid disbursement date for the semester (usually 2

days before the bursar’s payment deadline).

Due Dates/Deadlines

• Payments are due according to the deadline for payment of tuition & fees on OSCAR or from

the Bursar’s website: http://www.bursar.gatech.edu/ .
