CASHIER
Definition: Under close supervision, performs cash revenue receiving and the processing of utility
payments and general revenues of the City, balancing and preparing funds for deposit.

Tasks:
Receives and processes utility payments; collects general revenue payments; validates
checks and cash; processes revenues; balances revenues; collect and verify funds received
from other departments; balances receipts from other departments.
Balances checks; posts revenues received to accounting reports; balances cash postings;
prepares bank deposits; makes bank deposits; maintains manual filing systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:
Knowledge of the operation of a cash register.
Knowledge of basic accounting and cash handling.
Knowledge of the City’s revenue sources.
Knowledge of customer service techniques.
Skill in operating a cash register.
Skill in performing basic accounting activities.
Skill in dealing with the public.
Skill in balancing daily receipts.
Physical Requirements: Work involves a minimum of physical effort.
Qualifications: High school diploma or the equivalent and six (6) months of experience handling
monies received.
