Citrix Manual for Windows Operating System Overview of the Citrix environment
Overview of the Citrix environment
Citrix is the first software platform to satisfy the full range of enterprise remote computing requirements: from dial-
in remote LAN access and branch office automation to business-critical application deployment across enterprise
internetworks. Based on Microsoft Windows NT™, Citrix incorporates remote control technologies, allowing GTA
to deploy a wide variety of client/server, conventional, and legacy applications with a single integrated software
platform. Its low bandwidth requirements and extensive platform management tools make Citrix an ideal platform
for delivering Windows-based client/server and legacy applications to remote state district branch offices over
standard analog dial-up telephone lines, leased lines, or high-speed ISDN connections.
Citrix extends the reach of Windows applications regardless of your location or client platform. The Citrix product
line is an authorized extension to Microsoft Windows NT Server, developed under license from Microsoft. The
client merges Citrix distributed Windows components—the Intelligent Console Architecture (ICA™) 3.0 protocol
and Citrix MultiWin multiuser Windows technology—with the high-performance operating system technology of
Microsoft Windows NT Server. Citrix provides a complete telecomputing platform for all types of GTA users over
LAN, WAN, and dial-up connections. Citrix is specifically designed to provide high-performance server-based
remote computing to dial-up users.
Applications
The following applications are available on Citrix
COCOA (Inquiry Only)
GO mainframe access (Georgia Online)
Outlook XP
HummingBird Exceed (Limited to authorized users)

Citrix Manual for Windows Operating System Overview of the Citrix environment
Maximum Application Performance
Citrix maximizes remote application performance with its integrated remote control capabilities that provide
local/remote transparency. GTA Administrators configure applications to run locally on the LAN instead of on your
PC. From a single Windows desktop, mobile users can transparently launch multiple Windows applications with the
click of a mouse. GTA users can even hot key between their local PC applications and remote control sessions
without having to worry about how or where the applications run.
Internet Flexibility
You can access the Citrix server(s) by utilizing the TCP/IP protocol from your current Internet Service Provider
(ISP) along with the Citrix client, from virtually anywhere in the world. Virtually any device with an x86
microprocessor can be used to communicate with a Citrix server. These include desktop PC's, notebooks, handheld
computers, and Windows terminals.

Citrix Manual for Windows Operating System Citrix Client Minimum System Requirements
Citrix Client Minimum System Requirements
The following is a list of system requirements for Citrix. The computer that you use to access your Citrix account
must meet all of the minimum requirements listed below for it to run properly.
PC Requirements
Standard PC architecture, 80486 processor running at 66 megahertz or faster
8 megabytes of RAM or greater for Windows 9x, 16Mb or greater for Windows NT 4.0, 32Mb or greater
for Windows Me and Windows 2000, and 128 Mb RAM for Windows XP.

All floppy drives, hard drives, CD-ROM drives, and tape drives must either be between A through E, or
one of the following: G, J, K, L, Q or T
Systems with compressed drives and or running DriveSpace are not supported
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 is the preferred Internet browser
NOTE:
Your PC may only use the following drive letters: A, B, C, D, E, G, J, K, L,Q, and T. If you are using any other
letters for any of the drives on your machine, contact the Citrix Administrator before attempting to dial in using this
product.
Dial-up Requirements
For dial-up network connections to the Citrix server, the appropriate network transport software protocol is
required. The supported network transport protocol is TCP/IP.
For Dial-in connections to the Citrix server, an internal or external 14.4bps or greater data modem using a
16550 Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART).
WINMODEMS are not supported due to documented problems they cause with GTA applications. Nearly 200
modems are compatible with Citrix. Most modems that comply with industry standards will work; however, many
difficult-to-detect problems can come from incompatible modems.
Selecting a modem from the GTA suggested modem list should prevent these problems.

Part 3: Additional Information
Citrix Manual for Windows Operating System Citrix Printing
Citrix Printing
When connected to the network, you can print from any of the applications in Citrix to your local printer (the one
attached to your PC) just like you can print from any of your other applications. You can also print to any of the
network printers to which you have access.
While connected to the network, your local printer is referred to as a Citrix printer and is given a name. This name is
used to identify the printer and is derived from your client name and the printer driver name for your printer. E.g.
Client Name is W95_Testuser_Home, the printer name would be W95_Testuser_Home#HP LaserJet 4MV
(assuming your printer is using the HP LaserJet 4MV print driver).
NOTE:
Remember to select the printer that you want to use whenever you are printing from any given application. If you
use a network printer to print one document and then you want to print to your local printer, remember to select
your local printer for that print job.
When you connect to a Citrix server your local printers and any network printers to which you have rights should be
available for your use. If you would like to view the configuration of your local printer and any network printers to
which you have access while you are connected to Citrix, use the following instructions.
Instructions: Viewing the configuration of your local and network printers while connected to the network
From the Desktop, select Start | Settings | Printers.
The Printers window displays your local printer by its Citrix client name and any other network printers to
which you have access. Your printer status will be indicated by displaying Autocreated and check mark for
Default printer.
When you are finished viewing this information, close the Printers window.
