Essay Assignment: In approximately 500 words, discuss the following
Recruiting and retaining qualified and adequate staffing is a continuing challenge for most state banking
departments. Another way to address this challenge is to increase productivity of current resources through
improved processes and the use of technology. Productivity is not working harder and/or longer, it is about
your department meeting its statutory mandate in a new way that gains a greater return from your current
resources.
In your essay, describe how a banking department could increase its productivity by 50 percent over five
years while maintaining high quality standards in safety and soundness and compliance examinations.
Get creative. Current budgets, work rules or other barriers should not unduly restrain your ideas.
Your response should be a reflection of your own views and ideas and must include quotes from interviews
with at least one superior or co-worker, and at least one banker.
