World War II Day Overview Available at Thorndon and Cudmore Grove the children visit gun emplacements and searchlight pillboxes. Using a variety of materials they also design and plan a shelter to protect them from the elements and even from the enemy. Activities included in your World War II day: Shelter Building – children will have the opportunity to build a shelter Man Made – look for historic man made feature in the woodland Also at Thorndon Country Park: The Firing Range – children can walk to the firing range A Bomb Crater – the children will visit a bomb crater Also at Cudmore Country Park: Pill Boxes – the children will explore these defensive structures Who is it suitable for? World War II days are either key stage 1 or 2 and can be adapted to meet individual class requirements.
