                   available in Santa Clara County.
                     It is easy to get involved.
         Browse through this guide, pick the donation drive or

                         Volunteer shifts will fill on a first come first served

Abilities United Children's Development Services
Abilities United provides education, therapy and support to children with developmental and physical
challenges and their families. Each year they host a holiday party where each of their students receives a
gift.

Advent Group Ministries
Advent Group Ministries works with troubled, abused, and addicted youth in transforming their lives by
bringing hope, healing and love through quality treatment. The holiday season can often be very difficult for
their youth as many of them grew up neglected, haven't ever opened a present or have never had a holiday
tree. Each year Advent Group Ministries collects wish lists from each youth and provides them with a
home-cooked family style dinner for Christmas. Help create positive memories this holiday season by

Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI)
AACI's Domestic Violence Program/Asian Women‘s Home and their Youth Development Services Program
are collecting new, unwrapped gifts for their clients and families. The Youth Development Services program
works with at-risk east San Jose youth impacted by substance abuse and gang activity. The Domestic
Violence Program/Asian Women‘s Home provides a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter and non-
residential support to abused women, children and men throughout Santa Clara County. The families
served are extremely low-income and face enormous cultural and linguistic barriers to accessing
mainstream services.

Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County
Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County serves and advocates for families and individuals in need,
especially those living in poverty. Donations are needed this year for the Catholic Charities Seasons of
Sharing - Donation Station program. The Donation Station assists children who are working hard to get a
good education, families who are struggling to overcome the barriers to financial stability, refugees who
arrive to the United States without anything, and homeless individuals and families who are setting up a
new and stable home for the first time in many years.

EHC LifeBuilders
Adopt-A-Family Programs
EHC LifeBuilders has a variety of housing and supportive service programs for homeless men, women and
children and those at-risk of homelessness. Below are the programs looking to have their participants
―adopted.‖ If interested you will receive a "wish list" from the family/individual that you are paired up with to
help give ideas of what is needed/wanted this year.

RISE Program
The RISE program is designed to give single parents the opportunity to raise their income level and
increase their independence by focusing on education and job training. EHC LifeBuilders is looking to have
all 16 families enrolled in the program ―adopted‖ for the holidays.

THP-Plus Program
The THP-Plus Program works with youth 18-24 who were homeless after aging out of the Foster Care
System. Participants in the program work with a case manager to help move their life forward. The program
has 16 young people who would love to be ―adopted‖ for the holidays.

Backpack Drive for Homeless Veterans
EHC LifeBuilders provides support services to help veterans returning home receive the help they need to
move on and get back into the workforce. Donations of backpacks will help these veterans get back on their
feet this holiday season.

transitional housing program, who have since moved out of the shelter, but could still use a helping hand
during the holidays. Purchase the following items and bundle them together into a package to help a family
this Thanksgiving.

The Health Trust
Meals on Wheels Program
The Health Trust Meals on Wheels program home delivers healthy meals to Santa Clara County‘s
physically challenged individuals such as the elderly, those recovering after a recent hospitalization, or
people who are disabled and in wheelchairs. The program helps meet the growing needs of Santa Clara
County‘s aging population.

HOPE Services
HOPE Services assists individuals with developmental disabilities to live and participate in their
communities. For the holidays, consider donating to HOPE‘s Homestart Program. The Homestart Program
is an early intervention program that provides services and support for children with special needs and their
families. An annual holiday party will be held in December 2011 where families can come together and
enjoy a night full of fun. Dinner is provided and a gift is given to each participant and his/her sibling(s).

The Giving Tree allows needy children in the Sunnyvale area to receive toys during this holiday season.
The Senior Gift is a part of the Giving Tree holiday program in which low-income seniors may choose an
item from a designated location in the children‘s ―Toy Shop‖.

Holiday Wish List:

        Organizations sign up to decorate their Christmas tree with colorful ―tags‖ supplied by The
        Salvation Army. These ―tags‖ have listed on them a specific toy or clothing requested by a needy
        child or an item from one of their seniors in their program. The organization‘s clients or employees

Valley Medical Center Foundation
The Valley Medical Center Foundation (VMC Foundation) enhances and improves existing health services
by supporting programs that are under-funded by other revenue streams and that serve the neediest
families in Silicon Valley. VMC provides medical treatment and health services to 1 in 4 residents of Santa
Clara County and is the only hospital in the county with an open door policy that guarantees access to
medical care, regardless of ability to pay. Their New Directions Program provides intensive case

West Valley Community Services (WVCS) is a community based agency that provides direct assistance
