   Economy & Sector News
 There is an increasing apprehension among Indian corporates that the current global meltdown might snowball into
a full-blown crisis and last at least till the end of 2012. This was revealed by a recent FICCI survey where 83% of the
respondents shared this view. The FICCI survey on the global meltdown and its impact on Indian industry show that
uncertain economic outlook has also resulted in Indian corporates (50% of the respondents) holding on to higher cash
balances. Within the sample, sectors like metals, cement, food and beverages, reported the maximum increase in cash
            balances.
 Power trading business in the country, estimated to be worth about `20,000 crores, may take a hit on its profitability
as payments are getting delayed from their financially weak customers. Power traders are already seeing a sharp
decline in their trading volumes in a market grappling with high business risks, experts have warned. Most of the
power distribution companies or discoms are delaying the payment for electricity purchased from traders.
   Corporate News
 ONGC and the Oil Ministry‟s technical arm, the DGH, have given Cairn India the go-ahead for commencement of
production from the Bhagyam oilfield, the second-largest find in the prolific Rajasthan block. Cairn, which was
recently taken over by London-based mining group Vedanta, will begin oil production from Bhagyam at the level of
20,000-25,000 barrels per day sometime next month and it will reach the approved peak output of 40,000 bpd by
            April.
 Coal India Ltd is not dispatching adequate coal to power plants, the public sector firm has claimed that supply of the
fossil fuel to power stations has increased “tremendously“.
 RIL’s long pending proposal to develop four satellite discoveries in the D6 block with some conditions on Tuesday,
which will fast track reversal of dwindling output from India's biggest gas fields by adding additional 10 MMSCMP.
 Adani Enterprises Ltd has floated international tender for selecting a logistics service provider who would be
responsible for delivery of coal to various thermal power plants. AEL hereby invites interested parties to participate
in the bidding process for the selection of logistics service provider, on the basis of international competitive bidding,
who will be responsible for delivery of coal by rail-sea-rail route.
 Tata Motors Ltd has asked an estimated 1.4 lakh Nano owners to bring back their cars for change of the starter motor
free-of-cost. Vehemently denying this as a recall, the company said that it is changing the old starter motor with a
new and „better‟ one, an exercise that will reportedly cost the firm around `110 crores.
 ABB has bagged an order worth more than `4,000 crores from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd to deliver an
ultrahigh-voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission system. The link will supply hydropower from the
mountainous northeast India to the populous region of Agra, 1,700 kms away. The company‟s order-book in India
will book over `500 crores of the total order value for local equipment supplies and will additionally contribute to the
project with design and engineering services.
 GAIL is planning to set up an FSRU (Floating storage, regas and unloading) terminal for re-gasified liquefied natural
gas (RLNG) in the Krishna Godavari Basin followed by a land-based terminal once the floating version becomes a
            success.
 R Com. is in the final stages of talks with private equity firms Carlyle and Blackstone to sell its tower unit. The deal,
which could be worth USD4 bn, is expected to be announced in the next two weeks.
 REC, the state-owned lender to power utilities, has firmed up plans to raise USD500-600 mn (`2,650-3,180 crores)
overseas. REC approached the department of disinvestment in May with a proposal to raise USD1 bn through
FCCBs. But that would have meant reducing the government‟s stake in REC—currently 66.8%—by about 10%.
   Domestic Outlook
The frontline Indian stock indices opened with a positive bias and are holding on to the early gains in late morning trade,
extending the advance from last week amid signs of strength in the US economy and stable Asian markets. Trading volumes
across world markets have tapered off lately as market players opt for extended year-end Christmas break. Market breadth
was positively favorable as the broader market too has participated in the advance so far. The Sensex closed at 154970, up by
232 points, while the Nifty closed at 4779, gaining 65 points. Today, the market may seem stable, as the world markets (US
and EU) markets are closed, so we expect the negative gyration of the world markets will not be able to affect our markets.
Moreover, we feel that, as year-end is near so we may expect some “Santa Claus Rally” in our markets. However, being said
that, we expect the volumes will be less this week because a lot of the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) will be missing. We
would advise investors to go longs in selective stocks that are fundamentally strong and traders to trade selectively too.
