Companions in Christ Advent Series begins Nov 28 –Join us for a 4 week
Advent experience and start your week off with some time to reflect on God's
EXTRAORDINARY messages and actions to ORDINARY people in the midst of

Dwight.d@cox.net. There are 3 classes and they are open to anyone 3rd grade
and up; Sunday class 3rd-5th grade 10:30am, all ages Sundays from 4-5pm (Nov.
28, Dec. 5, 12 and 19th) and an adult Monday class from 10-11 am (Nov 29,
Dec. 6, 13 and 20th. Come join us!
Agua Prieta Christmas bags due back Sun Nov 28th!
December/January Desert Footprints Newsletter articles and stories are
due no later than Nov 28th to Susan at susan@desertfoothills.org.
Women's spirituality group will meet at the church on Saturday, December 4,
at 9 AM to help with the Christmas Bag project. This is the "checking it twice"
phase to make sure the one gift that most of these children will receive will truly
be just right.
Advent Prayer Services and Vigil are meant especially to give you a moment
to breathe and re-focus in the midst of a busy time -Thursdays, December 2, 9,
16, 7:00-7:45 p.m.
Longest Night Prayer Service - Monday, December 20, 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Christmas Prayer Vigil - December 24-December 26. You'll have the
opportunity to sign up for a half-hour time slot to pray from wherever you might
be.
Christmas Eve Services 4, 7 and 9pm
The WieStudios Christmas Recital will be held Sunday, Dec. 5th, 4:30 p.m.
in our Church Sanctuary. Piano and harp music will be featured. Harpestry Harp
Ensemble will be performing as well. You are cordially invited to attend! Please
mark your calendars now!
General Announcements
Volunteer to serve on Sunday morning – ushers needed for the 2nd
service! If you have been wanting to volunteer and meet people at church,
volunteering to be an usher is a great way to meet others! Contact Bart Sellers if

Christmas Eve Greeters Needed! If you would like to welcome our members
and visitors before one of the Christmas Eve services please contact Lesley Baran
at 480-283-1846 or lesleyb@cox.net. This is one of the busiest days for our
church so we need your help!
2011 Pledges - Free to be Joyful, at Peace, Faithful and Generous! If
you have not yet returned a commitment card, please drop one in the offering
plate, mail it to the church office or submit one online from our Stewardship
page on our website. Cards can be found in the narthex on the usher table. For
online submission, click on the Resources page, finance/stewardship tab. Please
turn in cards by Nov 30th . Thank you!
What good are empty printer ink cartridges and old cell phones? DFUMC
recycles them to fund administrative expenses of ministry. We have turned in
more than 100 cartridges and 25 phones this year which has offset expenses
AND keeps these out of landfills. We welcome ink cartridges or phones of any
type. Please leave them in the marked baskets in the narthex. Thank you!
Old Glasses - Give the gift of sight DFUMC collects used prescription eye
glasses and turns them into local optometrists who take them to third world
countries for those who cannot afford glasses. They can be left in the narthex in
the marked basket. Thank you for giving the gift of sight!
Youth Events
Homer Prayer Turtle is circulated weekly through the youth group. This week
Home is with Alexis Kyroudis and Sarah Colbourn. Please be in prayer for them
this week!
Christmas Party on 12/19 @ Doris Long’s 5-8p Bring a wrapped white
elephant gift for the exchange (less than $10.01) AND a non-perishable food
item for Wesley Community Center. POTLUCK: Last Names A-F to bring a main
dish G-R to bring a side/appetizer S-Z to bring a dessert. Drinks and tableware
will be provided.

Sign up for 30 hour famine and the 2011 youth mission trip in the youth
room (deadline and deposit due by Jan 2nd).

The mission team is asking for furniture donations for a family that is
moving to the area from Chicago, has experienced job loss and is in need some
help getting their home furnished. If you can donate any of the items below,

Table and up to 6 chairs, 4 twin bed mattresses (we have 2 box springs) or
entire twin beds, table or computer desk, living room chairs, dressers for kids.
Colonia Coffee for sale! Bags will be for sale – ground or whole bean - Decaf
is $9.00 per pound and all other varieties are $8.00 per pound. It will be
available in the Narthex or see a member of the Missions Team.
First Course Food Sunday Don’t forget the great need of non perishable food
donations for Wesley Center on the first Sunday of each month.
Fry’s Grocery Cards will be on sale in the narthex between services. Each card
is $25 which can be used to buy groceries at any Fry’s Grocery Store.
Church and Community
Communication by email! As stewards of God’s earth, we are committed to
using a minimal amount of paper and resources. By having your email
address(es), we are able to send weekly announcements, prayer requests and
monthly newsletters via email. Sign up on our website to receive e-news

Stephen Ministry If you or someone you know is hurting and would like one-
on-one Christian care from a Stephen Minister please contact Deb Browning at
(480) 862-4048 or (480) 706-8193.
First time visitors, we hope you feel welcome this morning! Visit our
hospitality table or a greeter so we can answer any questions you might have or
come between services during fellowship time so we can get to know you
better. If you would like a visit or a phone call, please leave your information on
the registration pads or fill out a visitor card in the seat backs. It is a blessing to
have you in worship with us this morning.
Do you have a friend or relative serving in the armed forces? Our church
prys for those who serve in the military weekly. Please send the church office

The Village Preschool…..’Where Children Are Celebrated’ - is located at Desert
Foothills UMC. Programs are: a Toddler's Program, Preschool Program for 3-4s
and Early Kindergarten. Contact Fran 480-221-5404 for more information or
stop by the church Monday – Friday, 8am-2pm.
Ahwatukee Music Studio - If you are interested in lessons, check our website
home page (www.desertfoothills.org) and click on the Ahwatukee Music Studio
tab for a brochure with contact names and email addresses and bios about each
teacher. Brochures are also available on the hospitality table in the narthex.
AA meets Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 8pm at
church.
Yoga Classes Mondays weekly for 8 sessions. Classes are in the worship area
from 6:30-7:30pm. Contact Annette annette66@cox.net if you are interested in
participating. Sessions are $40 for new and $35 for returning students and $6 for
drop in. Mat required.
