This is fireside storytelling at its very best – but never forget the darkness at your
back, or that every word you read is absolutely true… Heartbreak, misfortune,
intrigue, passion and tragedy. These are the stories that we haven’t heard before, from
the dark underbelly of our lucky country. These are truly the tales of the unexpected.
AUSTRALIAN TRAGIC is about a nation that began its life as a stage for misfortune
– and ever since has struggled to outgrow its birthright. From Aboriginals being
curios in an American circus to the story of the Luna Park fire in ‘79, and from Bob
Bungey, who survived The Battle of Britain but couldn’t face the heartbreak of
coming home, to the doctor who died minutes before he was to deliver a paper
revealing the secret of eternal youth – all these stories are told in a gripping narrative
style by veteran journalist Jack Marx. And we thought we knew our history…

Mannie and the Long Brave Day
10.00am Saturday September 12 @ the Sun Theatre

Two very talented picture-book makers have created a playful story about an
adventurous little girl who always finds just what she needs in her special, magic box.
Mannie and her friends Strawberry Luca and Lilliput are going on an adventure, and
Mannie is taking her special box. What’s in the box? Everything they need for skip
trip skipping down the old rocky road, and splish splash splishing through the wild
winding river. But then the sun hides behind a cloud, and it’s dark, and cold, and
quiet… What’s in the box? Just what they need to make the sun come out and shine
again. A magical story that celebrates friendship, courage and the wonder of a child’s
imagination. Perfect for ages 2-4.
